2nd Trimester

I'm panic-stricken and don't know what to do...

My father is at home with my DH and DD while I am at work.  He happened to answer the phone about twenty minutes ago and it was my Ob/Gyn's office.  The message they gave to him was that it was extremely urgent and that I had to call them immediately.  WTF???  They have my cell phone number.  If it was an emergency or extremely important, why didn't they call me on that number?  Now I'm sitting here at my desk, I've already called the nurse's line twice and left messages, and I'm about ready to cry.  I can't concentrate on anything else.  I'm scared that they found something on the ultrasound from last week.  Anyone else go through this?  Thanks.

  • Aww try to remain calm as hard as it is.

The reception people at OBs are the absolute worse when leaving messages.  They left me a similar one and it was just to tell me that my appointment had been pushed back an hour.

  • I can't say I've been through it, but I can say I'd be having a serious talk with my doc's office if they did that. That is not right. I hope they call you back ASAP!
  • Take a deep breath....try to stay calm. I imagien this is very scary however sometimes they make something very small seem very urgent, I hope you hear very soon, keep us updated....hugs & prayers

  • I hope that everything is ok!  Good luck, I hope you get thru soon!
  • I'm praying for you Labor Buddy! ::sending positive thoughts your way:: I'm sure it's nothing too important...maybe they found another baby in there hiding! :) Just try to be patient... i know its hard, but you know how doctor's offices can be. Besides i was under the impression that they can't give bad news on the phone...
  • I've never gone through this before, but I know that even though my cell phone is listed as a number to call, they try my house first.  Maybe since someone picked up and said you'd call back, they did not follow up with your cell?  Try to calm down and continue to call until you get an answer at your doctor's office.  Good luck.  I hope everything is okay.
  • OH NO! I hope they call you ASAP! Let us know what happens!
  • try and breathe sweetie, and also try not to jump to any conclusions- the message could very well have been misconstrued by your father.  just hang tight- maybe go for a walk to try and calm down.  good luck!
  • Try not to worry too much, it may be as big a deal as they make it sound.  1 week after my 1st OB appt I got a message on my voicemail from the front office telling me they needed to speak with me urgently and to call back ASAP. When I did they told me my pee sample (from a week ago) showed I had a bladder infection adn I would ned to get on antibiotics.Think positive :)
  • Aww that stinks.. just keep calling them

  • I can imagine how scary that would be.  I'm sending you good vibes. Keep us updated.
  • I had something similar. They called my cell phone and I called back one min later and they were at lunch for 2 hours. They were calling me to tell me the placenta is covering the cervix. So everything was ok. Keep us posted!
  • Hi Ladies!

Thank you SO much for your kind words and thoughts.  I finally got a call back from the nurse and she told me that the ultrasound did not yield adequate shots of the baby and that I would need to go back.  The u/s tech told me on Thursday that the scar tissue I had on my belly (I had surgery for an absess when I was 16) made it difficult to see little Anthony and she would have to check to see about me coming back.  I went through this with DD, so I thought nothing of it.  When she came back in at the end of the ultrasound,  she told me I was all set and that they had everything they needed and that I don't have to go back.  Evidently, she never updated the chart and when the OB's office got them and reviewed them, they saw her note about having me go back.  Seriously, I have been in tears for almost an hour and it was all about me having to go in for another u/s.  Help me as I am too emotional to deal with this!!  Thanks ladies!

  • Ugh, why do they have to call in such a panic! ?How nerve wracking!

    ?

Well at least you get to go see the baby again!?

  • While I am thrilled for you that it turned out to be nothing, you NEED to talk to your doctor about this.  The way they handled that message was completely unacceptable.  Please dont play it off like you're just too emotional for this - any one else would have reacted the same way!  Nurses/receptionists at OB's who leave messages like that need to be aware of the clientele they are dealing with and have a little more tact!
