My DH and I currently have a Canon Powershot digital camera (2006) that we're moderately pleased with for overall photography, but it does not do well at its supposed "image stabilization" that it advertises. When the baby comes, this will be a huge problem, as I doubt he'll hold still for us to capture some cute moments too often.
We're looking for a good Digital SLR OR compact camera (maybe compact more so because my FIL may give us his pro-level Digital SLR that he upgraded from recently).
Any recommendations??
Re: 2nd Time Moms: camera recommendations
I have the Canon Rebel XT and it takes great photos. It can run around $800but for as many pictures that I take it was worth every penny. I also bought a lens that was $80 for nice close up photos Canon EF 50 mm/f 1.8 II

Ditto on purchasing the 50MM 1.8 -- GREAT lens for the price!
I shoot with the Canon XTi, great camera. I would go to the store and hold the cameras in your hands and see which one feels best in your hands.
