DS has to be on pedialyte because he has diarrhea after every meal and bottle. DR office says he can't have dairy.
What I didn't ask her was is he really supposed to have pedialyte and other carb foods until the diarrhea goes away? She said the diarrhea usually lasts 5-7 days. Hae you gone a week without giving DC milk?
Re: xp: diarrhea and pedialyte ???
DD just had this and it also lasted a week.. though we're pretty sure it has to do w/ a lactose sensitivity and not a virus.. unless it was a major coincidence..
Anyway, the nurse told me to put her on the BRAT diet: bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast. We were told to keep giving her the old (gentlease) formula though.. This was told over the phone. At DD's 12-month visit, at the end of the diarrhea phase, pedi said they often recommend giving DC soy milk when they have diarrhea because it is easier to digest.
When we switched DD to soy, it stopped immediately, which is why we're assuming it's the lactose as opposed to a virus.. but at that point, it had been a little over a week, so who knows..

My DS is lactose intolerant (as well as everyone else in the family....). We give him RICE milk. I would talk to your pedi before you run out and buy Soy. There is a very high incidence of children who can't digest dairy that also have issues with soy.........so I would ask her about Rice and/or Hemp milk.
When my DS has diarrhea (for any reason.....), we always do the BRAT diet for 48 hours or so and I give Pedialye in his sippy.....
