Ugh, I just read the post below about how its ok to take the sudafed with Pseudoephedrine but not Phenylephrine. I just asked my OB on Friday and all she said was Sudafed is fine to take and didnt say anything about the different ingredients. Im trying not to stress. Ive taken 5 pills in the last two days, obviously im not going to take any more and on the list of active ingredients in each caplet it says there are only 5mg of this phenylephrine per caplet so ive had 25mg of this stuff in the past two days.
Not that theres anything I can do about it but ill probably call my OB in the morning and see if she says this is ok to take, just for my own sanity.
I also heard the same thing about robitussin. It can have either the pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine in it. ugh someone please tell me im making a big deal out of nothing!
Re: Stressing about Phenylephrine
if you are stuffy, benedryl is A-OK to take. it works for me. i live off. take it once daily before bed.
good luck
PS: i also, took sudafed, and read too many bad things dealing with the placenta... so i cut it out all together. easier than worrying "if" all the time
the main risk for phenylephrine is restriction of blood flow based on blood vessel constriction, as well as increased blood pressure. gastroschisis can result from prolonged constriction. the risk exists for pseudoephedrine as well, but since it has a longer half-life and works better the overall exposure is typically less because doses do not need to be repeated as often.
remember, prolonged exposure is what matters. 5 doses is not going to cause harm. feel better!
