All those who RENT

Are you allowed to paint where you rent? We want to paint the nursery but I have yet to ask our landlord...just curious if others are painting their nursery!

  • We are allowed to paint...but most places don't allow you.  If they do, they usually require you to paint it back to the original color as it was before.
  • My FIL is a landlord and he lets his tenants paint as long as they repaint it before they move it, otherwise their deposit is automatically relinquished.?
  • We don't rent now, but have in the past and we were always allowed to paint as long as we painted it back.
  • We just bought a house.. but we are still renting until march 31st and from what I understood is we could have painted  we just needed to bring it back to its original color (plain white) but we were only planning on renting for a year. which we did. so we figured. why waste our time. we just put up alottt of pictures.. if you are going to be tehre for a while. I would def paint. white is sooo plain. blah

  • yes. i rent a house. ... however i know the landlord mutually.. and hes a very reasonable guy. i would say most places let you.. but def ask. cause if you would ever need maintence and they see it, that could be a lease breaker!
  • We don't really care what we are allowed to do.  Our landlord sucks and it is in our lease that they will repaint the apartment after we move out anyway.  I actually just called to see if they could repaint all the rooms except the baby's room and reprimer that one because the walls are disgusting and we don't smoke or anything (and we have the dyson sweeper so that helps with the dust) the walls are black, and I have tried washing them, but they just look worse.
  • We did but my uncle is our landlord.  I didn't even ask because I knew it wasn't a big deal to him - plus our neighbors (in the duplex) had just had their whole house painted, not just white but lots of bold colors.

Good landlords will repaint after you move out anyway so I don't know why it would be a big deal.

  • We can, and we have. Before we leave, we just have to put a coat of primer up over the paint. They repaint after every renter leaves, so it's cool.
  • We rent and aren't painting. I'm sure we could talk to the landlord and see if she'll let us, but just don't want to hassle with painting someone else's house just to paint it back to the original color when we move out.
  • We're not. Just too much hassle. Plus it's a log house so only some of the walls are paintalbe anyway.?
  • We're not allowed! :(
  • we're not allowed to paint
  • Yeah, we're allowed, but we have to run our choices past them first, and no wallpaper.

  • We rent from a condo owner (versus an apartment building or complex) so she's pretty flexible. We already painted the living room and master bedroom and I'm assuming she won't mind if we paint the other bedroom too, but I haven't asked yet.

  • we can paint but before we move out, we have to change the color back to the original (a cream-ish color).

Because this seemed like a lot of work, instead we went to the dollar store and bought removable stickers (they are giant sized) and decorated his room with those, instead.

  • The nursery is the only room that isn't painted in our apartment.  We have to put primer over when we move out, but I was really aggressive in my color choices, so I'm not backing down now.
