2nd Trimester

What happens at 1st appt?

I already had an U/S done with my regular doc to determine how far along I am in my pregnancy. ?Now I have my first appt with my OB on Thursday at 13 weeks. ?Will they do another U/S? ?What do they usually do at the first OB appt? ?If they don't do another U/S, how will they determine that everything is still ok?

Re: What happens at 1st appt?

  • If they don't do another u/s (most women don't have them often) they will likely listen for the heartbeat with the Doppler.

  • Pee in a cup, check blood pressure, listen for heartbeat, and go over any tests that need to be done before the next appt.

Am I the only one that is saying Hmm to this? Only 2 posts and both of them have been in the last 2 minutes. Both posts refer to stuff that is more 1st tri related. Sorry to be insensitive, but google it. It is pretty common sense stuff. Pee in a cup, talk to the Dr., maybe an ultrasound. Nothing huge.

  • I had a pap smear and pelvic exam at my first OB appointment as well, but that may be depending on how long ago you last one was and what your doctor does.

I'm with you Mike&Care-I'm just desperately attempting to edit what I'm really thinking right now.

  • At my twelve week appointment, they checked my weight and blood pressure, I did a urine sample, had an ultrasound, and had my blood draws done. I would have had a Pap smear done at that appointment, but the week before I'd ended up with an infection, so they wanted to wait to make sure it cleared up before doing it.

If you don't have another u/s (and a lot of women don't), they should be able to tell if things are okay by any blood tests they do and how you report feeling.

I responded before I noticed - but her profile says she is an RN and she is over on 1st tri asking about the difference between a doppler and an ultrasound...umm, shouldn't that be pretty standard knowledge?

Yeah, I hope I never end up at her hospital.
