Adoption

PSU-NCBride

The group is called Adoption: A Gift Of Love. I am not sure if this is 'the' group.

Also, can I ask, if the BM already signed off parental rights, what else would disrupt the placement?  I saw that in your post, and I thought once rights were relinquished, that was it? Feel free not to answer if you don't want to. :-)

Re: PSU-NCBride

  • Butting in...in some states relinquishment is revocable.  In some it is not.

For instance, in Texas, a birthmother cannot sign papers until 48 hours after birth, but once they are signed, they are irrevocable.

But in Alabama, papers can be signed anytime, but the birthmother has 5 days from the day the papers are signed or the birth of the baby (whichever is later, which means she can sign pre-birth) to change her mind.  So that relinquishment is revocable.

  • Yes, exactly what MrsB2007 said. Each state has different laws. In many states the mother has a time period after signing that she can change her mind. Even if you wait to travel after consent, it is not guaranteed that it is a done deal. Getting the BF's consent is also something to take into consideration.?

  • Thanks, this all seems so emotionally scary.
