bakers, I have a ?

the pedi said I could start introducing peanut butter in small amounts to DD.  I have  good PB Oatmeal cookie recipe that I want to alter to make a snack for DD.  I'm switching out half the oil for apple saucing, using whole wheat flour and i'll use all natural PB.  This recipe makes a lot of cookies but calls for 1 c white sugar and 1 c brown sugar.  Can I just use half the amout of sugar, and just have the cookies be a different consistency?  Or is there a substitute I can use instead of all that sugar?  TIA!

Re: bakers, I have a ?

  • I think the only substitute would be a fake sugar which I wouldn't do for my kids.  I don't know how it would turn out with half the sugar - honestly, I may cut the oil/applesause to adjust for less dry ingred.  GL!

You should be able to cut the sugar by a third, and not have a problem. I wouldn't try cutting it by a half, though, without a substitute.

If you've done honey, it's a great sub in baking, for sugar, but, you have to do some math. I'd just cut the sugar by the third and call it a day, though.

    I learn something new everyday!

I wouldn't switch sugar for honey and applesauce for oil in the same recipe for a cookie. You're increasing your moisture by quite a bit.

Also, I probably wouldn't switch all the oil for applesauce. Number 1, the fat isn't a bad thing for babies. Number 2, the oil allows for some crisping, which the applesauce won't. In a muffin or cake, that wouldn't matter. In a cookie, it will.
