Does laptop use affect baby?

I have been sitting with a laptop on my lap for the last 4 hours and it just occured to me that maybe radiation or something could affect baby. Have you heard anything about that?

  • It's probably a good thing that you posted this late at night when you are less likely to get flamed.  Yikes.

    ?

I agree! ?Haha... ?just try not to chew on the power cord and you should be ok.?

  • you are fine hun

my FI actually asked me the same thing a few months ago & all i could do was laugh at him...i think he got the point after that

  • Um, that would be a no. If laptops gave off that much radiation don't you think they would come with some sort of warning?
  • Although I agree with pp, I have thought of it too. And putting my cellphone on my belly when I'm laying on the couch.
  • well not sure of reason but they say that if you are trying to conceive you shouldn't put the laptop directly on top of the belly.

I believe that anything like laptop, cell phone, microwave etc.. can't be great for the baby...

  • I wondered the same thing.
  • Radiation, no. lol  Heat, yes...Don't let yourself get over heated and don't put the laptop on your stomach.  I got a cooling pad for mine, so it keeps both the laptop and me cool.  Belkin makes them...I got mine for $30-40 (I got one that will work best with my 15" widescreen), great investment for even after you're pregnant.

Everybody that is worried about cell phone and laptops, etc...do you have wireless internet in your house?  Do you own cell phones?  What about a cordless phone that needs to communicate with its base?  Monitor for in baby's room?  Even if you don't, people in your neighborhood do..Everywhere you go there are wireless signals going every which way...you walk right through them.  Putting that cell phone on your stomach is not going to make a difference.

  • I wondered about this too, and I looked it up and found that as long as you don't get overheated, it's fine. Just put it on a pillow or cooler and don't keep it too close to your stomach. I don't think computers give off radiation.

The reason it may affect fertility probably has to do with the heat factor. I've read men shouldn't put laptops too close to "down there" because heat can decrease fertility.

DON'T put a pillow under your lap top -- That just makes it worse.

Ditto...and you'll end up with a broken overheated computer.  The fan needs release all that heat and the pillow will just keep it in.
