Re: hospital bag

  • I pack mine around week 37 - but if DH had his way it would have been packed around week 25!

I packed: toiletrees, make-up, comb, clothes, underwear I didn't really care about, sanitary pads (overnight ones - way more comfy then hospital ones), warm socks, slippers, pjs, and a going home outfit.  For baby: swaddling blankets, diapers, wipes, clothes, soother (just in case), Kolic water (just in case)......the hospital will most likely provide diapers, wipes and vaseline, and probably clothes for baby as will.  If you have to have an antibiotic drip for Strep Group B , your new baby may be gassy and Kolic water or gripe water really helps - I wish I had some at the hospital when DD was born.

  • Don't forget the camera and cell phones.....you'll probably want a book and/or magazines.

  • I live right beside the hospital so when I pack mine it will probably just be the basic stuff. I can't see myself packing all kinds of things when FI can just run here and get it if needed. I will probably just throw a bag of stuff together when my water actually breaks! lol I know I know.. i'm such a slacker!
  • Thanks for the info!  Even though it's early, I was actually just wondering today what we should take to the hospital for the baby.  :)
  • I packed my bag the day I went to the hospital.........Also when I realized I was in labor the pants I wanted to wear where not clean so I made DH wait to take me to the hospital until they were washed.

This time I will do it sooner.  I know I brought a lot of stuff last time that I did not end up using.

  • i packed my bag 10 minutes before i left for the hospital...i had a 31 hr labor and still had no interest in all of the stuff i would of thought i would use.

i brought mouthwash (i got really bad breath and it made me feel way better to clean out mouth every few hrs), sweat outfit for going home, baby outfit for going home, hairbrush, some makeup (day after birth so many people came to visit it made me feel better about myself)....

everything else the hospital will give you (toothpaste/brush, shampoo, slippers, many hospital robes,  they let me take about 10 receiving blankets home with me, breast cream for feeding, pads, etc)

i had so many goodies to take home from hospital i was so happy i did not overpack!

    I did this. LOL

  • I was packed at 35 weeks. Ill probally do the same this time.

Do not forget to bring your own pillow. Hospital pillows suck.

I made sure to pack all my toiletries, my cell phonew and charger. one thing I hear alot of ladies say they wished they packed is hemmroid cream. I was okay, but alot of woman swear it made thier lives easier. Another thing I coulda used was a donut to sit on right after deliver because my stiches were quite sore.

A water bottle or two so you don't need to go fill up your glass so often. I found when i'd nurse I'd drink almost a whole bottle. Don't buy brand new pajamas to stay in the hospital, bacause they will get ruined, unless you just wear the new top, and old bottoms.(unless you don't care)

    Expecting #3 next spring!
  • I will pack probably 38 weeks.

I will bring clothes for after I leave, pjs, socks, slippers, toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo, pillow, pads, makeup, camera, cellphone, bottle water, hairbrush, and an outfit to bring the baby home in. Also the diaper bag. :)
