Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Other options besides D&C

So I'm in the process of my second missed miscarriage. The first one I had a D&C. The current one I'm still not showing any signs of miscarrying naturally and the only other option they gave me was to have another D&C. I asked them about that pill you can take but they said I would need to get that at an abortion clinic. I need your help here ladies. Is there something else I can do, or should I just get the D&C?

Thanks!

Re: Other options besides D&C

  • First off, Im so sorry for your loss.

I dont understand why they wouldnt havee the pill at their office- or at a pharmacy.  If it was me, Id got with the D&C, but personally, I have zero patience.  Good luck with whatever you choose.  And again, i'm so sorry for your loss.  ((BIG HUGS))

  • If you didn't have any problems with the first one... I'd do another D&C... I just think that it was emotionally easier for me that to have to pass the baby on my own.

  • Thanks ladies! I have it scheduled for Wed, but just thought I would see what my other options were. Thanks for listening:)
  • i am so sorry for your loss.  i miscarried naturally so i don;t have much knowledge on options, sorry.  i just wanted to let you my thoughts are with you.  sending you lots of love.  take care of yourself.
  • My doctor confirmed I had a miscarriage this past Tuesday and prescribed cytotec to aid the natural miscarriage process.  I don't know if that is the pill your doctor was referring to.  I took that the same day and it caused the most severe cramping and pain I have ever felt.  Most of the heavy bleeding and cramping occurred that day and was over within 3-4 hours.  I am still bleeding slightly now.  My doctor preferred to go the natural miscarriage route to avoid any potential risk of scarring as a result of the D&C.

I am really sorry for your loss.  Good luck and take care of yourself.

  • I have had a natural miscarriage, natural miscarriage induced by cytotec and 2 d&c's.  The "easiest" was the D&C.  I am sorry for your loss.  GL.

  • i think it might depend on how long ago you lost the baby.. like for me it was 3 weeks and they wanted me to go right to the hospital then and there.  It can be dangerous, and they told me taking that pill was not an option.  I had a good experience with my D&C - relatively quick, painless except for a few cramps after.. it was over quickly and I was able to move on.
