My family is asking for toy suggestions for DS's birthday, and I really have no idea. We live in a small town (no ToysRUs, Target, etc...), and I think it's hard to get a good idea on the internet. Any favorites you'd like to share?
TIA!

For dd's birthday, we got her some little fisher price cars, a play cell phone (she's really into playing telephone now), some outdoor towels (bucket, shovel, etc.-it's summer here), but her favorite is a little backpack. She loves to put stuff in and take it out. I take it with us to the grocery store for her to play with in the cart, and change the little toys in there constantly. It was inexpensive, and provides lots of entertainment. She also really likes a fisher price truck she got that's big enough for her to pull around.
Another great toy she has is a refrigerator magnet that she can put other little magnets into, and it plays music. Not sure what it's called, but it has farm animals. Magnets for the fridge are also pretty cheap, and if big enough, provide play for when you need to do stuff in the kitchen.
He also loves his Melissa and Doug puzzle, Leapfrog drum, rolling around his kid's size soccer ball, any and all books, especially books with textures to feel, the Curious George movie soundtrack (to dance to)
I think ost of these can be bought on either Amazon.com, Walmart.com or Target.com
Ride on toys - there are lots to choose from but we have a Playskool that converts from a ride on to a walk-behind toy
Busy Ball Popper from Hasbro - a BIG hit with all the toddlers that visit our house
Puzzles - any kind will do but my daughter especially likes the ones that make noise
Learning table - there are zillions out there, just pick one. We happen to have a Chicco table that has activities on one side and then you flip it over and can do lego-like blocks on the other.?
Wagon - she loves going for walks in something other than her stroller. ??
Clothes - you can always use a few more summer pieces, right? ??
Dd got some little people for her b-day and she LOVES them. They have special ones for small kids and she has this house thing. She loves magnets for the fridge and some leapfrog cars she got.
DS will be one next weekend and I bought him a Tonka garage playset with extra cars, some balls, books, and FP Amazing Animals. I think he is also getting a baby pool / activity center and FP animal farm from family.
Some things he already has that he loves: FP crawl and cruise jungle, FP musical zoo, FP sing and go choo choo train, FP activity table, and FP musical stacker.
