NBR: probably a really dumb question

but can adults get ear infections? All the info I can find on webmd is about children... My ear is killing me and I've been dizzy and can't walk straight today. Not to mention the cough and head cold I already have... ugh!

  • Definitely. I had a terrible one last year that gave me a whole new respect for how tough little kids can be! It hurt like hell.?
  • Absolutely!  I've had at least one in the last year.  I would have a doctor look at it, they can get pretty painful when the infection gets out of control.

  • I like to put a heating pad or something along those lines up to my ear when it hurts.  This will sound weird, but when I was little my dad would blow warm air into my ear.  It made it feel so much better. I guess the heat helps.  Feel better!!!

  • Thanks, if it doesn't get better by Monday, I will be calling the Dr...again. I'm pretty sure they're getting sick of hearing from me... but I have been sick almost this entire pregnancy... and not M/S either!

  • It sounds like an inner ear infection. My doctor acted like these were really common in pregnant woman because they get off balance and causes things to get weird in there ear. haha! I'd get checked out to make sure everything is ok! Hope you feel better.
  • yes & they are terrible!! call your doctor befor it gets worse.

when i get one i use a heating pads directly on my ear....or warm salt up in a pan on the stove then put it in a sock & put it on your ear(thats what my grandma always did). i know it sounds weird but it works. heat always helps & my gram said the salt draws out the infection (i have no idea if thats what it really does or not haha) but it works :)

  • It sounds like it might be an inner ear infection since your balance is off, although adults can get regular ear infections too.  I would try warm compresses for the pain, and sleep on the same side as the ear that hurts so it can drain out.  At least, that's what worked for me as a kid.
