you simply can not compare pooping on the table to a 4th degree tear..... take it from me - you would rather have diarrhea all over the table - in front of your entire family- than deal with a 4th degree tear... it was HORRIBLE... 8+ weeks of pain- and 2 yrs later- still have issues down there that will require surgery someday.
i know mastitis can be pretty bad- but i also don't think it can compare to a 4th degree tear... not much can!
Oh my God I dont even want to know what 4th degree tearing is!!! Tearing at all is my biggest delivery fear!
I'm pretty sure it is all the way through the anus. Someone can correct me though. I had a bad tear with my last, but it went upwards all the way to the pee hole. It was "3rd degree" and hurt like hell. I also was unlucky and experienced the other two options as well as a med free birth. I am hoping this birth experience is a bit more enjoyable and that I get to the hospital in time for an epi!
OH MY GOD!!! I'M SO SORRY TO HEAR YOU HAD TO GO THROUGH THAT!!
Pooping on the table I hear from my child birth class RN is incredibly common and that the nurses actually feel its a good sign that the baby is in the right possition and is making his/her way down the birth canal. The baby's head puts pressure on the rectum so a little will come out. No worries though, its not like we're going to take a giant dump on the table hahaha. Although you never know with some of the stories I've heard.

Ouch I am sorry! I had the opposite issue and still have pee issues 4 1/2 years later! I agree though, I'd rather diarrhea on the table then tear again!
I never thought I'd say I'd prefer to poop on the table, but I agree with the PP. I'll take fleeting embarrassment (at worst) over lasting pain and discomfort.
I didn't know that pooping on the table was scary. Pooping is going to be the last thing I'll be thinking about while pushing a baby out my vagina!
yeah- you don't even think about it. Neither DH nor I know if I did or not - there was too much else going on.
and yes- if you poop it means you are pushing correctly- so that is a good thing
as for 4th degree- it's my understanding it has to do with how far it goes into the muscle - not just front/back, etc.... though, my tear went right up the back.... i don't know if going up the front would be worse or not- but my cooch hurts just thinking about it
i'm having a c/s this time b/c of how bad the tear was. My friend is a colorectal surgeon and said i should not risk another tear like that- or i could end up with permanent incontinence (fecal and urine) due to extra scar tissue, etc.... so it's a c/s for me! (even if it was one baby)
This is so weird, but I'm not even that worried about the pooping on the table thing. I've resigned myself into thinking that it most likely will happen. My issue that scares me is letting a huge fart right in the doctor's face, and then me laughing uncontrollably considering I have the sense of humor of a 13 year old boy and I would think it's hilarious.

I always invisioned my self tearing from end to end...biggest fear...BIGGEST! I am SO sorry for all of you that had to go through that
