Buying Diapers?

My MIL called me today to ask if she wanted her to send some diaper coupons in the mail and I was like sure! Then she said that I HAVE to start buying diapers right away. Has anyone bought any this early?

My plan was to wait until a month before the baby, so that I can return the ones I don't like or use....

I am not.  I registed for a crap load and at my shower, they will all bring a pack for a raffle ticket.

Our plan is to only buy 2 or 3 packages of diapers. We have no idea how big he's going to be and with store return policies being so strict these days I'd hate to have several packages of diapers we can't use or return.

We're going with cloth diapers, but I need to do more research before I order any.

We are asking for gift cards to stores that sell diapers, rather than diapers themselves.....and even started getting a few gift cards already. that way we can just go out and use the GCs and it doesn't feel like such an expense, and we don't have to try and return brands that we dont want to use or whatever.

I plan on starting to buy diapers next week.  I will buy one huge case of Newborn, and than every two weeks after that I will get a case of size 1-2.  My !st DS stayed in size 1-2 for the first three months.  And babies go through 10-12 diapers a day in the first few months.

Our friend's husband had a diaper party the day before his wife's shower. He invited about 20 of his friends and they all met at a bar and brought a package of diapers to get into the party. It was a pretty good time for the guys and they scored a bunch of diapers of different sizes.

Yes, we are thinking of stacking up on diapers before the baby arrives. We don't know many people here since we moved from Europe to the Bay Area last year... so I won't have a shower people can bring diapers to... or ask for gift cards, we have to split the costs over time. We plan on buying a pack of diapers every once in a while when we do other shopping for the baby. I'll only be getting a pack or two of newborn (since we don't know how big the baby will be), and more in bigger sizes.

I have had in-laws recommend buying early but my concern is sizes.  My brother and brother-in-law are throwing my hubby a diaper party the same day as one of my showers so we will get several that way.  I think we will just wait till closer to the date for us to buy.  Not to mention I can order diapers through my mom's hospital for a discounted prize.

Don't buy them right away! You might get a crap load of different sizes at your shower and you might be overflowing in sizes 1 and 3 but have no size 2's, etc. I'd wait to see what you get.

We're waiting on diapers & wipes... just to make sure there won't be any allergies/reactions to any (if/when we do buy some, we'll buy in small amounts to be on the safe side, if everything is fine then we'll buy bulk, lol)

We're doing cloth, so yes we're getting them ahead of time. I registered for them so hopefully we wont have to buy any!?

What if you started stocking up on wipes though? The super sensitive ones just in case any allergic reactions. You'll always need wipes and will never have "too many in one size" Hehe.

I've heard of some babies not liking a certain brand so we're buying gift cards to Target for the cost of a pack of diapers and wipes. The gift cards take up a lot less space too.
