Has anyone looked into what it will cost to add the baby to their health insurance? My husband and I have seperate insurance so I was trying to figure out which one we should put the baby on. Right now I only pay $16.65 a pay period. I asked the woman in HR how much it would be to add the baby to mine and she said it would be $189.81 per pay period. I can't believe it would go from $432.90 a year to $4,935.06 a year!! Does this seem right or do you think she got something really wrong? I don't trust her completly since she really has just been filling in the spot until we hire a new person, but I didn't want to go make a stink about it and look like a fool if thats really right.
Re: Health Insurance for baby question
That doesn't sound completely out of the question.
Under my current plan, I pay $5 per pay period. If I added DH, it would be $32 per pay period. Ironically, DH works for the same company so he is under his own plan for $5.
it should be in your benefits hand book you got in October.... that doesn't sound right at all... but every insurance is different so who knows.
i think it's like an extra $30 per child per pay period for Dh's insurance and a little more for mine - so we're using DH's for our kids.
Good luck finding an non-group policy that covers a family of 3 for under $400 that is any good. ?I pay that for MYSELF. ?We will probably pay close to $1,000/mo for my husband, myself and I after the baby comes. ?And you don't have HIPPA protections. ?Just something to think about.?
This was our situation. There was no employee + 1 on my or DH's insurance- its either employee or family. The comforting thought for us is family is family- 1 child or octomom has the same family rate. At least there won't be more cost jumps as we expand our family!
I was thinking the same thing. I have my own insurance but when we added baby, to DH's (better) he went from single to family, they don't allow +1. So, I added me too and now I have primary and secondary insurance.
Calling the insurance company may not give her the info she needs, especially since if she only pays $15 (or whatever) bi-weekly, that means her company likely pays part of the insurance premium for her.
Sounds like you only have the option for family coverage, which should be for you and all your dependants (even though you'll technically only have one). If this is the case, then consider having your husband drop his so you can add him as well - if it's the same rate. Or check to see what it'd cost him to add the baby.
But definitely make sure she gave you the correct information. Yall may have a you + 1 option. Maybe check w/ some of your coworkers who have dependants as well.
What? What do you mean you don't have HIPAA protections? Your health information and that of your family is private, period. Any health care provider you use should be abiding by HIPAA regulations.
