Hospital gown?

What is everyone wearing during delivery? I have heard that it is uncomfortable to wear a hospital gown. Do different hospitals have rules on this?

Re: Hospital gown?

  • I wore the gown and that was it....maybe a pair of socks, I really don't remember now. I plan on doing the same this time.

  • Yes, different hospitals have different rules, and some will let you bring your own nightgown/whatever to wear (no pants, obviously) if you are more comfortable.  HOWEVER - pretty much everybody says it's better to use their gowns at least through delivery.  That way THEY take them and wash them, and you don't have to deal with it.

  • I'm pretty sure you have to wear the gown. it really isn't that bad.
  • I'll be wearing a gown so I dont ruin any of my PJ's - I plan to wear a sports bra if possible.

  • Wear the hospital gown.  It will likely end up undone and half on/half off.  But it will also likely get gross from you sweating and then the baby being on you after delivery.  Not mention other bodily fluids that may end up on there.  You don't want to be doing that to any of your own clothing.  Just change after you're all cleaned up and in postpartum recovery.
  • You're just going to be uncomfortable and irritable in anything your in. Might as well get their stuff dirty versus your own.
  • Most hospitals require you to labor in the hospital gown. I'm laboring in the gown and a sports bra...probably the next day i will shower and change into comfy pjs and a nursing tank.
  • Even if I get the choice, I'm going to go with the hospital gown b/c i know it's going to get disgusting and I'd rather not have to deal with it. Plus, I love all my pj's so I couldn't bear to get them gross.

  • I haven't decided for sure yet, but I am bringing my own clothes to wear in case I want them (they are ones I wouldn't mind throwing away after). I also have comfy clothes for after the delivery; however, friends have told me that you bleed so much that first 24 hours after that it is better to wear their gowns if you can stand them because they'll probably get bloody.

You can wear a bra at my hospital.

  • i wore the hospital gown and a bra.  trust me, once your water breaks, you will not want to be in your own clothes!  not to mention once you actually HAVE the baby..

  • gown for delivery, own peejays for after the shower :)
  • I'm not wearing the hospital gown. first, I'm allergic to most detergents and it will likely gove me a rahs. Second, they are really big and hard to maneuver in. I found that it kept getting stuck underneath me as I tried to move around. This time I'm wearing either a close-fitting nightgown from Target or a tank. FWIW I had a really gross delivery last time and I didn't end up getting anything on my gown so I'm not worried about ruining anything. If it gets sweaty, I have been known to wash my laundry occasionally. Hmm

I purchase two new 'hospital' type gowns to wear.  I watched my poor older sister fight and cuss her issued hospital gown during all four of her deliveries.  They were too big and too bulky and who knows who wore it before her.  I realize I'm going to gunk up my new gowns but I don't mind. Plus I'll be ready for the first baby/mommy pic in a perfect color for my skin tone cute lil gown.

  • I was completely naked for the intense contractions and the birth.  I was too focused on all that was going on with me to be worried about my clothes.  I went completely drug free, so I did have the added benefit of the birthing hormones to help me not focus on the small stuff.
  • I only wore the hospital gown the whole time I was there up until about 2 hours before I was discharged. It didnt matter I was uncomfortable anyway I had it halfway untied at the point of trying to deliver vaginally I honestly could have cared less if anyone saw anything. I wore it so long because I ended up with a C-section after 24 hours of labor.
