2nd Trimester

Since you all seem to be so fond of MIL posts...

I'll share a horror story of mine.  Thank god, she is my EX MIL.  Getting rid of her was one of the biggest perks of my divorce!

Ex-DH and I had just bought a house together - first house for both of us - I worked 60 miles away from the new house, so I had about a 2 hour drive EACH WAY with traffic.  MIL kept saying how she'd like to take me shopping and buy us some household items, but every time she'd offer, it was a week night.  I already didn't get home from work until 7:30pm as it was, and had to be up at 5am the next morning - I didn't want to go shopping on a weeknight.  I wasn't trying to be ungrateful, but I did need to be AWAKE at work, since we had a new mortgage!

I come home one night, and here she is, in my new house, Ex-DH nowhere to be found (he was still at work also) HANGING GOD AWFUL CURTAINS.  Drilling holes.  Into my beautiful, original, 1930's wood panelling.  I walk further into the house.  4 new rugs in various places.  All hideous.  2 decorative pictures, ALSO HUNG ON THE WALLS (my poor panelling!!!) that were, again, TOTALLY not my taste.  Thanks for buying me things, but, um....  can you let me SEE THEM BEFORE YOU PUT THEM UP??

To top THAT?  She had done laundry.  What's wrong with this?  Well, nothing except she washed and dried her precious son's clothes, folded them, and put them away.  She washed mine, pulled them out of the washer and into a laundry bag, and buried them in the back of our very large closet.  Which I didn't find until they started to mildew and smell.  Which ruined the clothes.

That was all in the span of one day.  Now use your imagination to envision what 8 years of her was like to endure!

  • Oh LORD!  You can co-write my MIL stories book with me!  I would have called the police for tresspass.
  • HOLY Cow. :: Goes to hug her sometimes questionable MIL::
  • wow i feel so lucky! i love my MIL!
  • haha nice! That reminded me of the time right after we got married. I was asleep and MIL walked into our house to get her paperwork out of the office for the business. Her excuse was that she called and I didn't answer - ahem... I was ASLEEP. It creeped me out more than anything that someone could come into my house and I didn't even wake up. I woke up later and walked into the office and there was mail and paperwork - from her - on my desk. I called DH to see if he had run home to pick up something and he said, "no, my mom stopped by".

Needless to say, DH talked to her and she hasn't done it again.

  • wow, she seemed well-intentioned until she stuffed your wet clothes into the back of your closet.  WTF?!?
  • The clothes thing wasn't even a new trick, she pulled that on her other son's now ex-wife too.

She also would show up at our house conveniently on any anniversaries we were having, on V-Day, anytime we had mentioned we were doing something just us, to butt in and want to take him out to dinner, but not me, because she "needed to talk to her son".

She replanted the whole front planter box outside the new house.  A week after I had spent 2 days doing it.  She didn't like the flowers I spent MY MONEY ON and MY SWEAT ON, so she went and bought new ones and redid it.  Mind you, I am NOT a gardener, so the fact that I did it myself in the first place made me cry, I was so proud of myself and how it turned out.

If I ever happen to run into her again in my lifetime, you can bet your sweet arse that I won't hesitate to tell her what I think of her.

  • OMG!  I can not even imagine!  My MIL isn't that bad, but she doesn't live here!  Wink  She lives on the other side of the country and I only talk to her about every 6 months.
  • OMG.  My MIL is hard to get along with...but (as far as I know) would never do anything like this!!  She actually put your soaking wet clothes in a bag in the back of your closet??  I can't understand what would possess someone to do this.
