Hip displacement

We found out today that Aubrey has mild hip displacement in both hips.  We will take her to see a specialist, but can't do so for another month or two.  For now we just need to make sure she doesn't cross her legs and double diaper her.  Has anyone else experienced this?  What did you have to go through?  TIA!

I had a severe case of hip displacement when I was a baby. Obviously I do not remember it and it was the 70's so I am sure things have come a long way. I had casts on both my legs until I was 18 months... My younger sister had it 9 years later and she had some velcro braces that she wore. I hope all goes well, I am thinking I was not much help!

My sister had hip displacement when she was a baby (25 years ago!) and she wore a brace but I'm not sure for how long.  She is fine now as an adult.  She had to have multiple x-rays and my mom was concerned that they might have lessened her chances of having children of her own.  She had some tests done and her ob/gyn said everything looks good!  So I don't think there are any long term effects from it!  HTH!

One of my local nestie's daughter is going through this right now. She had to wear a little velcro harness for about a month. I think logistically it's a bit of a pain to deal with the harness, but not terrible - esp compared to the NICU. And it's wasn't at all painful for her daughter.

Just to add here, if you don't mind. :-) ?If you have a jumper, exercauser, or jumperoo, don't use it. ?We got rid of ours, b/c not only do they promote toe standing, but they can actually CAUSE hip displacement. ?This was according to our OT and pedi. ?I'm sure you already knew that!?
