Update: Dilemma at doctor's office

I called the doctor's office and talked to the nurse manager. I have told her about yesterday's incident and asked to keep my files private. She ensured me that this person will not have any access to my personal information and will not be present at an appointments. The nurse manager said that she could be terminated from this office if there will be another complaint and asked me to make sure I call back again if there is ANY more information. She will not be terminated yet because MIL does not admit that she got the information from her. BOO!

I guess that's all I can do for now - we'll see how things go from here... Thanks for listening!

Edit: I really really really like my doctor and would hate to switch

It's good they are taking it seriously!!! I'm sure a lot of offices would have tried to brush you off and say your MIL heard it from DH.

If your MIL or anyone else in the family hints around at knowing that you made that phone call (cousin will obviously be pissed), this again means she broke confidentiality and you have a right to inform the nurse manager of that breach. Keep that in mind! Good luck!

I would still call the cousin directly and let her know that you have reported her to your doctors office, and explain to her that you don't appreciate her not respecting your wishes or privacy.
