Ladies who had HELLP

How long did it take for your liver enzymes to return to normal?? Mine were still elevated after two months PP and now I have to have an ultrasound of my liver tomorrow morning to make sure it's nothing but the HELLP still clearing my system. The GI specialist said it could take anywhere from 3-6 months to completely clear. Has anyone else had problems with this? I'm just hoping I don't have .liver disease or anything else serious. AND I'm not allowed to start birth control until we know what it is!! :(

Mine were ok by the time I left the hospital (2 weeks pp).

Interestingly, my dad told me last night that he has Gilbert's Syndrome which is a genetic and hereditary liver condition. I'm going to get tested to see if I have it.

My ob never mentioned it once I left the hospital (about a week pp) so I assume they were safe by then.?

Mine were dropping by the next day. not sure when they actually returned to normal.. I had some gallbladder issues and they ran a panel about 5w pp and they were normal then.

My OB never mentioned to me about follow up.  I had to stay an additional day but they told me part of that was that I needed to see a psychiarist for PPD.

I don't remember my OB ever mentioning a follow-up after I left the hospital.

Mine were also normal when I left the hospital.  Good luck, hope everything works out!

Mine never mentioned it either, I had it with Severe Pre-E, my liver enzymes were up, but it was my low platelets that made the early delivery. She just said all would return once the babies were born. Sorry not to much help.

I asked my regular doctor to check my liver about 3 months after, and it was back to normal.  My blood pressure is still not normal.

As far as birth control, could you get a Paraguard?  It's hormone-free, and highly effective.  I have a Mirena that I really like, but I guessing that the BD issue is due to added hormones???

I'm not a preemie mom, and hope you don't mind that I respond here.  I just saw your post and thought I would directed you to the preeclampsia foundation forums, if you haven't already visisted.  The women over there are so knowledgable, and have beem much more help on the medical side of things than my doctors have!  And I noticed a post the other day similar to yours. . . HTH!

I can't remember when things were back to normal, but the 3-6 month range sounds right - it was gradual, and I think things finally looked stable by the six month mark.  I'm 2.5 years post-partum and have asked my doctors a lot of questions about it over the past few years since I've been concerned about long-term damage, but my PCP at my last visit let me know that the liver is good at recovering and that this was unlikely to cause any problems later in life.  HTH and best of luck on your u/s.
