Background - my first appt. is Monday and I called the dr to see what to expect. They said they'd do a quick scan, bloodwork, etc. I told DH about it and we decided he'd skip this one.

I'm sitting here at work and my cell phone rings (DH calling), but my coworker was in my office, so I ignored it. Then, immediately after that, my office phone rings and his number pops up.  I was thinking - this must be important if he's calling my office line.  So, what's the urgent news? Went something like this:

Him: Hi - Jenny came in (his coworker who just had a baby last month) and said they are going to stick a 12 inch rod inside you at your appt. - you know that right?

Me: Umm..is this why you called?

Him: Yes - just wanted to make sure you know that.

Me: Thanks babe, I'm quite aware that they'll probably have to do an internal to see something this early.  Thanks for the call. 

I hope I'm not going to get the "just so you know" crap for the next 8 months.

I doubt they will do an internal u/s at only 5w3d.  That's funny he called though.

Yes, you'll have an internal (maybe not at this appointment), but it won't be a 12 inch rod (it's more like 6 or 8, though the entire thing doesn't go in) - leave it to a man to exaggerate rod-size.  GL and congrats!

i had a stupid doc and got an internal at 4 weeks, and 5weeks  (and she wondered why she couldnt see anything)

i got an internal at my first appointment. i was somewhere around 5 weeks. dh went with me because did didnt want to miss the first ultrasound. all we saw was a black dot that the doctor said was the sac but he was still glad to go with me

I had the dildo cam at 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 7 weeks, 8 weeks, and 9 weeks.

They never used that on me during my first pregnany, and they didn't use it at my first appointment this time either.  I think I'm kind of glad.

My DH freaked out at the first u/s because we brought his mother and they did the probe. MIL was fine but DH kept appologizing, got to love husbands!

I don't think men realize what we go through just getting a yearly pap and all that. It sounds much scarier than it is for sure! The internal US is definitely not as bad a a pap I think- with the clamp and the craping around. Yuck.

That sounds like something that my DH would do. It would be a complete emergency.

I slowly began prepping him the other night for the first appointment. I had to explain that he can just stand next to me and hold my hand while I was examined. He didn't need to go peering in with the doc.
