I feel like I'm in a rut with DD. Lunch is typically leftovers from last night's dinner, which she eats fine. But I feel like I should be introducing her to more lunch-type foods like sandwiches, etc. Snacks are typically cheerios or crackers and some kind of fruit like raisins, bananas, apples, pears, blueberries, etc., or homemade bran muffins and fruit. Definitely not a lot of variety. We dealt with a milk/soy intolerance for a while that it seems we are just starting to clear. She had to stay away for all dairy and soy for a while, and we've been slowly introducing more into her diet. Now she drinks 1/2 soy milk 1/2 rice milk and can eat some cheeses like cottage cheese. Cheddar seems to be okay, but we're not totally 100% with it yet. I feel like I want to start giving her more fun kid-themed snacks, but don't have any ideas. I'm hoping someone else who is much more creative can give me some ideas to steal. TIA!
Re: What do you give your 18 month old for lunch and snacks?
DS is only 16 months, but some of his favorite snacks are: string cheese, fruit (esp grapes, banana, or kiwi), whole grain cereal bars (he only gets those sometimes as a treat), crackers dipped in hummus, Veggie Pirate's Booty.
Some of his favorite lunches are: quesadilla with black beans, cheese, and avocado on a whole grain tortilla, hummus on whole grain bread, risotto or polenta with cheese and peas in it. ?He has one of those along with some type of fruit usually. He will not really eat any meat so I am in kind of a rut as well.
Kate is 22 months, but I've been feeding her the same things since 12 months. Snacks: string cheese, veggies and dip, crackers and hummus, dried fruit (she loves dried mangoes), yogurt, dry cereal, cereal bars, fresh fruit, Annie's bunnies, etc.
Lunch: quesadillas with beans, avocado and cheese, baked beans and hot dogs (I use the organic, nitrate free ones if you're worried about that type of thing), mac & cheese with peas, turkey meatballs and pasta, leftovers, Dr. Praeger brand veggie pancakes and fish sticks (in the freezer section), veggie burgers, soynut butter & jelly sandwiches, all kinds of soups (she loves black bean soup and a veggie tortellini soup I make), wraps (she likes turkey, cream cheese and broccoli wraps), grilled cheese.
