DD doesn't like cow's milk, how to change that?

DD weaned herself over the past month or so, and my supply has completely tanked, so the doctor gave us the green light to give her milk. ?Of course she doesn't like it :( ?I have watered it down the past day or so, and made a point of heating it to at least room temperature, but to no avail. ?Please share any tips you have on getting your DC to drink milk, thanks!

  • DD didn't like it at all at first either.  (We started mixing at 10.5 months.)  Do you have any breast milk that you can mix with it?  I wouldn't water it down.

  • I was going to suggest heating it up to the temperature she's used to.  Maybe a little warmer than room temp?  That was my DS's problem when we made the switch.  Slowly I was heating it up less and less until he would take it cold.

Another suggestion is changing the bottle or sippy cup you are using.  My DS hated drinking anything but formula from his bottle.  And he would only drink water from one type of sippy cup.  I tried 3 or 4 different sippy cups before I found the one he would drink milk from.

  • Does she take water from a sippy?

I personally think that cows milk goes over better if you make it a totally different thing from BM.

Don't put it in a bottle - she expects the taste of BM from a bottle.

Don't heat it - she expects the taste of BM from something warm.

If she'll take cold water from a sippy try non-diluted cold cows milk after a couple of sips of water.

It should taste better than the water to her.

Just one other thing you might try!

  • She drinks water from a sippy and a straw, and I have tried giving her the milk in the straw bottle, as she seems to favor that one. ?She drinks a fair bit of water each day from the straw bottle. ?With the milk, she will take a couple of sips and then just lets the milk run out of her mouth. ?I only have one freezer bag left of bm, so do you think I should mix it with cow's milk? ?There's just about 5 ounces. ?She has never drank regularly from bottles, so I would rather not get her used to bottles. ?If I put milk in her oatmeal in the morning, she doesn't object to that. ?I will try everyone's suggestions and see what works. ?Keep the suggestions coming, thanks!
  • We had to warm DD's in the microwave for like 15 seconds - just enough to knock the chill off. That did the trick for us.

  • If she eats yogurt, try adding a little bit of that to the milk.  I did that with my older DD for a few days and it totally worked.  I used the YoBaby kind.
