baby weights - 31 weeks

Hi all, I just read through the "big head" post thinking that I might get my answer there (b/c the ultrasound tech said both their heads are big!) but my concern today is their weight.

At our ultrasound last night Baby A weighed in at 3.5 lbs and Baby B weighed in at 4.5 lbs.  Should I be concerned about that difference?  The technician was not and I will see my doctor Thursday night but I wanted to see if this was normal.

Also, they are both breech - do you think they can both still turn?

Re: baby weights - 31 weeks

  • At my 32 week ultrasound my girls were a pound apart, and were both breech.  My perinatologist said it was nothing to worry about, and that the smaller baby was just going to be smaller at birth.  They were born at 38 weeks, and Madeline who was smaller on the ultrasound was 5lbs 12oz and Sarah was 6lbs 6oz.  Sarah switched to head down around 33 weeks or so (I forget exactly).  Madeline flipped around positions, at my 36 week ultrasound the perinatologist noted at the beginning of the ultrasound that she was still breech and unlikely to turn at that point.  She proved him wrong.  During the course of the ultrasound she flipped sideways, then head down, then breech again, a complete 360 turn in less than an hour.

  • Thanks!  I had a feeling I didn't have to worry but it feels better to have confirmation.

And what an active little girl you have there!! Smile I wonder does an active baby in the womb mean an active baby outside?!

  • My girls were born at 30w6d so essential 31 weeks.  Theywere 3lbs 3oz and 3lbs 8oz.  We were alwys watching their weight differences since they shared a placenta.  Remember u/s can be way off when estimating weights.  At a growth scan 10 days before they were born. they were estimated at exactly what they were born at.
  • mine are 4 lbs 4 oz and 3 lbs 9 oz as of yesterday...b/c they r both in the healthy range my doc is not concerned.

3 wks ago they were 2lbs 12 oz and 2 lbs 2 oz
