NMR: discovery health channel "freebirthing"

maybe it's because i'm a preemie mom, but i'm watching this show called "freebirthing" about women who choose to have totally unassisted childbirth and i think these women are totally nuts! no doctors, no prenatal care, no midwife, no meds, no nothing, they do it themselves. ? it's a bit frightening.

  • OOhhh. We watched this last week when it was on. Those women are TOTALLY nuts. I would be scared to death to attempt something that risky!

  • Having had a medicated intervention-ful preemie twin birth and a doctor free med free intervention free birth (he came too fast), I can totally appreciate what the body does naturally, I just had to trust myself.   I wasn't ready to let go of doctors though so I was always heading towards a hospital.  To each their own.

  • Yeah. I'm not a big fan of that sort of thing.  I understand that women have been giving birth at home for centuries, but women and babies used to die in childbirth too.  I understand if you can't make it to the hospital.  But I think making the decision to intentionally have a baby at home as opposed to in a location where they could be treated by doctors (ideally a NICU) if something went wrong is selfish. It might be a more wonderful experience or whatever at home, but I just can't see any beautiful birthing experience as being worth adding any additional risk to the health of the baby.

  • I have thought the exact same thing.  These women have lost their minds!
  • I saw that a while ago too and kept thinking "what a trainwreck."  I was so weirded out by it but couldn't stop myself from watching the whole thing.  Definitely not something I would ever do.
  • That's crazy! I understand some woman want to do it all natural and all thatk, but what if something goes wrong. I think that is too riskey, and you need to think about you and your childs health. You never know what could happen.
  • If you want to go all natural that is fine but to birth at home with, far away from any medical help if needed is selfish I think. At least have a midwife with you who has some sort of medical training if the unexpected should happen. I would never forgive myself if I chose to birth at home to avoid medical intervention and it cost my child their life.
