Adoption

recommend your favorite adoption books

I don't know much about adoption, but we're considering taking that journey in 4-5 years.  We're most interested in learning about domestic and trans-racial adoption, if you have any book recs that would apply.

  • Oooooh, one of my favorite topics!  :)

    I really liked:

"Raising Adopted Children" by Lois Ruskai Melina

"A Love Like No Other" by Pamela Kruger and Jill Smolowe

"Secret Thoughts of an Adoptive Mother" by Jana Wolff

"Twenty Things Adopted Kids Wish Their Adoptive Parents Knew" by Sherri Eldridge

I really want to read "The Girls Who Went Away" by Ann Fessler.

    tapestrybooks.com has TONS of suggestions!

  • My favorite so far has been the connected child, but I also liked Adoption Parenting: Creating a Toolbox.
  • I love, love, love A Mother for Choco.  It's a children's book, but a good little pick me up for when the snags in the process are getting me down.  I think it's great for transracial adooptions, and plan to read it to my kids when we finally bring them home.
