Re: Income Source Poll

  • I'm not sure I qualify for any of your choices. By breadwinner, do you mean who makes the most bucks?  MH makes 3 times what I earn, but I still make a 6-figure salary.  So we're not 50/50 by any stretch, but we could still win some bread should he leave his job.

  • I meant making about equal contributions, so I would say you qualify for the H makes most, but you contribute. BTW, what job do you have that you make that much?
  • I'm actually a little underpaid (mid 6-figures) for my qualifications and experience, but the company is a start-up and I'll take the flexibility over the extra money. I am the VP of product management, which means my team designs the software and tells/manages the software engineers on what to build.
  • Wow. I am a lot underpaid for my experience, but I just needed a job so that's what I took. Unfortunately molecular biologists don't make 6 figures usually. Well, maybe they do, but I certainly don't. You are very lucky!
  • flower is so fancy!  haha, love it.

DH makes all the dough over here.

  • I'm kind of out of the box on this one as well... DH only makes slightly more than I do... but we live primarily on his paycheck and save most of my paycheck for vacations, cars, retirement, and b/c of the economy emergency funds.  So if our company goes under we will be fine for a while.  We also do this b/c he dreams one day I will want to resign and become a SAHM (not going to happen) but it is comforting that we could get by on one income either way and not suffer.

  • I voted 50/50, but it's really more like 60/40. Dh makes more than me, plus he's the one who carries the insurance and some other benefits. Still, my income is more than just a little extra money on the side.?

That being said, both of our salaries combined don't even come close to hitting 6 figures, LOL. I can't even begin to imagine...

  • I make more, but dh's income is substantial (he has a job and owns a company) so it isn't like "he brings in a little on the side".

However much we make never seems to be enough though. Between our mortgage, the nanny and our cars - we're freaking cash poor all the time. I swear it'll be a huge pay raise when change childcare options or he goes to school and we get those damn vehicles paid off.

  • I make more, but he has great insurance.  $42 premium per month for family coverage! I am self employed so it would cost us a fortune without his bennies.

  • We both work FT. DH is on straight salary and I'm on Salary plus commission. So on an average with my commission checks  we make pretty much the same. When i have a good month I make more than his take home per month. On average, we contribute equally.
  • DH makes twice of what I make, but we both work full-time. However, that gap may change a little soon as I might get a 3rd raise in the past twelve months AND jump up a pay grade. (Keeping fingers crossed).

Ditto.  My contribution is hardly "money on the side".
