Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Question re food and daycares

I'm looking for a new daycare for DS.  He's currently at a center that provides meals.  None of the ones I've looked at provide any food, both franchises and smaller daycares.  Is that normal?  He'll be starting out in the infant room, but I expect him to transition into the toddler room w/in 4-5 months.  Since my only experience with this is his old daycare, I really don't know what the norm is.

Re: Question re food and daycares

  • Our daycare provides the afternoon snack.  I pack them their morning snack, water, milk, and lunch.  My guys are in the first steps room. In the infant room, they did not provide any food.  In the next room they go to, the daycare provides all snacks, but I still pack drinks and lunch.  They do have a pizza lunch 2x a month, but we pay for that in advance.

  • all daycares in my area provide food to 1yr olds and older.  However, DS is lactose intolerant so I still bring his milk daily, and he's still not completely on table food.  DAycare tries to feed him the table food they made for the day but if he doesn't eat it all or none at all, they give him the baby food I bring.
  • The daycares that I know of all provide food.  I worked at a daycare in HS and the ones that my niece went to always provided food.

DD is at an in-home center.  The DCP provides all food (including baby food).  She doesn't provide formula, diapers, or wipes.

  • Our daycare provides morning and afternoon snack only.  I provide milk and lunch.  I usually also send something to cover one of the snacks also.  For me it isn't a big deal because then I know what she is eating.
  • Our center provides all his food and liquids (whole milk, water & juice) once he's on table foods.  They have a full menu that includes breakfast, morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack.  When he was just starting out with solids, I circled the few foods he was allowed to have, and brought in purees for him.  As he got older, I allowed more food from the menu and had to bring in less for him.  Now he's completely on the school menu and I don't have to bring in anything, except his milk, because he gets lactose free milk.  Once they're a little older (2 or 3 I think), they urge all parents to have their kids on the center's food, and only allowed outside food if a child has an allergy or special needs.

  • Our day care provides milk, juice, and snacks. We provide breakfast & lunch.
  • When he was in the infant room I had to provide everything. I brought his snacks and his lunch, and his milk. They did have some cheerios and goldfish but if I wanted him to have something else, like puffs, I had to bring it.

Now that he's in the toddler room they provide snacks but if I want him to have yogurt for his afternoon snack I provide it. I stil send his lunch but I can pay a little extra for him to have school lunch which it seems like most of the kids in his class are eating so I might. Right now I send milk for him but if he gets school lunch milk will be included.
