Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

always waking up crying?

My DD is a great sleeper... all night long and pretty good naps.  But she always wakes up crying. As soon as we get her, she's fine.  Anyone's DC do this? - I hate that she wakes up this way, and I'm not sure why she does it... do we just need to somehow teach her that she can just call us?

Re: always waking up crying?

  • OMG, yes!  DS wakes up in the morning fine, but when he wakes up from his nap he is ballistic.  Immediate screaming and crying.  Nothing's wrong with him, though!  It's stressful, and I have no idea what to do!

  • DS always wakes up crying too.  One time he woke up and called out "mama baba" it was really cute, I guess he woke up in a really good and hungry mood that day.
  • I don't know if this is exactly what you mean...but DD has always been a pretty good sleeper...and started really sttn at like 5 months or so...and she has slept from like 8 until 6...but the last month or so, she has been waking up at least once during the night.  Last night she was up like every half hour between like 2 and 5.  She wakes up screaming crying...and once we go in to get her she is fine...and we rock her and lay her back down...she even now goes to bed awake, which she never did before...so the only thing I can think of it that she has her eye teeth coming in...at least two, if not all.  I am really praying this is just a phase, and a short lived one at that.
  • DD wakes up half the time crying, the other half the time she wakes up happy and babbling.  It's only recently that she started waking up happy at all.  I think some kids just have a hard time in that adjustment period between awake and asleep.

  • My DS does this too. In the morning and from naps, he always wakes up crying. He is also very cranky for the first couple minutes. I just always attributed it to him not being a happy waker upper?!! I dont know, Im hoping he grows out of it. I would love to hear him wake up and just play and babble and be happy :-)
