Summer vacation...

Hmmm WDYT?  A week on the beach chilling with DH or a fun city we can explore like Boston or San Francisco.  My favorite thing to do on the ocean is surf and swim but last time I was pregnant I caught a bad wave swimming and got thrown to the bottom.  So I probably should skip that this year... but now what do Tongue Tied

Re: Summer vacation...

  • I say a fun city w/ big parks, hands-on museums, and other stuff that would allow Harm to expend a TON of energy and let you and DH relax!  I would ditto staying away from the beach!

  • Personally, I never pass up the beach.  It is so relaxing and I just love the sights and sounds.  But since you are preggo maybe somewhere not so hot would be fun too.  I have never been to Boston or San Fran.  Could be a good time.  I am going to Cali for the first time in August.

Oooo, I love both cities.  San Fran tends to be chilly in the summer, whereas Boston tends to be steamy and HOT!

  • I love LOVE the beach. But sadly, last summer DS did not. In fact, the beach and Hudson were a big FAIL. I'm sure as he gets older he will love it more, but we might only do a beach weekend this summer versus a whole week.

My vote is for a fun, family-friendly city with lots of things to do with Harm.

  • San Fran is my fave.  But I've never been to Boston.  Really there are so many places we can go in the US.  It is a great country Smile  I even got this crazy idea to wait until September and go to a Texas Football game and do kayaking in Austin.  Or NYC even... so many places to choose from.  I just know the way DH and I work all the time and w/a new baby on the way we will need a pre-babymoon.  In fact Harmon will be staying with his gualita and Grandma... it will only be a few days and he is coming with us to Vegas next week!

  • I guess I missed the part about it just being you and DH.  In that case, go somewhere you couldn't really enjoy as much with the little guy.  Some place new.  I am going to Orange Cty, CA by myself in August to visit a dear friend and am psyched.  A new place and time by myself!
  • No you didn't miss it I just forgot to mention it Stick out tongue

You have fun!  I've been there a lot... in fact we spent our big vacation down there last summer and it is beautiful

  • I missed your pregnancy announcement! Congratulations!!!!!

Could you do a combo? Like a few days in busy San Fran and a few days chilling at Lake Tahoe? San Fran holds a special place in my heart - Adam was the best souvenir we could have brought back from that city!

That sounds like the perfect trip.  DH and I would love to go to Lake Tahoe someday.  It looks amazing.

  • May be a personal preference, but I am all about having fun to explore a new city!  SF, of course, is my home "city" and I love it.  I absolutely fell in love with Boston the last time I was there, and I cannot wait to go back.  It's a wonderful cross between a big city and a college town vibe, it's perfectly walkable, and you have the added bonus of all the wonderful history and scrumptous seafood.  What could be better?

Vacations, to me, though are usually about exploring a new place.  That's how we picked our honeymoon, actually.  We put a bunch of cities that neither DH nor I had ever been to and drew out of a map.  Vancouver!  With side trips to Victoria and Whistler.  It was fantastic!

  • well.. we usually go Gulf Shores, AL for 4th of july. We stay at this hotel ON the beach for like $200/night, has a kitchenette and its very family oriented. We usually fish off the beach late at night, caught THREE stingrays, wow that was FUN reeling in! But...since we're probably doing the house this fall, I dont think we'll be doing vacation :(  But I love that place!!
  • San Francisco! Then we can visit  Wink

Seriously though, considering you will be further in your pregnancy I would want to hang out on a beach or river and not think about walking all over a city... especially in the heat!

  • Well if you could just go to the beach to sit and relax...maybe wade a little bit, that could be nice.  I also think that it is always nice to visit somewhere new.  and if you do not have Harm, think of a place that would not be possible while having little ones.  NYC is always nice.  But if you haven't been to Boston, that would be cool too.  I have been to NYC a few times.  I would love to go to San Francisco someday...but it is so far (I am in WNY).
