Preemies

xp: does he need this Synagis Shot?

Would it be ok to skip this last Synagis shot?

DS has gotten Synagis shots since November because born 6 wks early but never had any problem whatsoever.

He usually is irritable and cranky for few days after the shots. His next shot is scheduled tomorrow. I am tempted to asked the dr not to give it to him, since the RSV season is almost over. On the other hand, what if....?

BTW, DS is not in daycare.

TIA

  • I'd take irritable and cranky over a kid with RSV any day!

  • My boys are both allergic to the Synagis shot (see my blog) and are no longer going to get the shot.  They are both the 1 in 100,000 so we're talking pretty rare.  Given that, I would strongly advise you to continue to get the shot.  There are many full term healthy babies that still get RSV and are at risk of horrible consequences from the illness.  Don't risk it just because your little one is fussy.
  • I would get the last shot.  RSV is devastating to preemies.  Not worth the risk in my opinion.
  • I'd take a cranky baby for a couple of days over seeing my daughter in the hospital for weeks on end and being VERY sick.  JMO.  Full term babies get very sick with RSV, I can't imagine how a preemie would do.
