FWIW, for me, clomid was the devil. I O'd 2 eggs, but it thinned my lining too much to ever be able to get pregnant on it. What measure was your lining at?

I have to go to the lab tomorrow for testing. I dont know about my lining...please bare with me...I am new to this. When should I find out about that?
I was told to go to the Lab on day 23 of my cycle...
I am a sucess story. I took 1 round of 100mg of Clomid and I am 9 weeks pregnant. Good luck! Hope it works for you.
They will test your progesterone level (which is the day 23 blood work) and should be doing an ultrasound for your lining. My doc only did the blood work on day 23 and then I was supposed to be off to a fertility doctor but when they called me back 2 days later with my level i had already taken a pregnancy test which came out positive.
Best of luck! Hope to see you over here soon.

Clomid didn't work for me either. You should have blood work and be monitored with ultra sounds as well. The ultra sound should be done to make sure you are not getting cysts. (I had cysts...a 23 mm that delayed my progress when I switched to an RE) If you continue to take Clomid for several cycles and its causing cysts it could turn into more problems. There are plenty of doctors that don't montior like they should.

in theory, you should have had an ultrasound and bloodwork done on CD3. Then you should have had follow up bloodwork and ultrasound after taking the clomid (usually around CD10 - CD12). This will tell you how well you responded. If you responded too well and are overstimmed and should cancel. How thin or thick your lining is. Your hormone levels. All this should have been checked before you O'd.
No offense, but it sounds like your OB gave you clomid. OB's are notorious for not following proper protocol for clomid. Even WebMD will tell you that bloodwork and Ultrasounds should be given frequently while on this drug.
How long have you been trying? Have you had an HSG? No use taking clomid if you don't even know if there are problems with your tubes.

Thanks! That makes sense. I wasnt sure when I would get the ultrasound done.
I requested clomid because we have been trying for over 6 months to get pregnant...and I have had irregular periods since 2001. I have had an ultra sound in October of 2008 and everything came out normal. I am not sure if I am ovulating.
I hope to be apart of the 1st trimester crew very soon.
Wait - you don't know if you are ovulating? Your OB gave you Clomid on request? Did you try charting or even opk's before going on a heavy-duty drug? And you've only tried for 6 months? Not even 6 cycles but 6 months?
I would not continue to see an OB who was so careless of proper protocols and so risking of my health.

whoa now...I dont know if I am ovulating because I have been TTC conceive off and on since 10/2007. I needed to regulate my period, so was on the nuva ring. Got off of that in 9/2008. Didnt have a period for 3 months and so he put me on prometrium to induce AF. AF came on her own this month and I started on clomid on day 5-9.
What is the proper protocol for clomid? I didnt feel like he was doing anything out of the ordinary. I guess I am wrong. I switched doctors and I told him that I had an ultra sound done with my previous doctor. Everything came out normal. My tubes look fine, no cysts.
I did try an OPL last month and I only saw faint lines each testing. So, I assume I wasnt ovulating...or maybe I didnt do it correctly.
I know I sound a little "Duh" with this but I am learning...
It's ok if you are just learning. I'm not trying to snap at you; thank you for clarifying that you've been ttc for longer 6 months.
You need to be closely monitored on Clomid, because there are certain risks involved. As mentioned above, it can thin out your uterine lining, it can result is too many eggs if you are a good responder. Too many follicles increases your chance of multiples.
You can only take Clomid a limited number of times in your entire lifetime, so being given Clomid without having tests run to determine what your hormone levels are or without determining what problems you have with your cycles is irresponsible (of your doctor). I think that not knowing if you are ovulating naturally (via bloodwork, charting or opk's) makes just giving you Clomid dangerous. It's better to the do the testing in advance and be monitored while you are on Clomid to make sure that you are receiving a drug that can treat your particular issues, rather than just taking a heavy-duty drug.

Thank you ladies. I will have a talk with my Dr. about this. He did warn me of the risks with clomid as far as multiples are concerned...and we are well aware of that.
Thank you for not beating me up...I got scared for a second there! lol.I know your doing this out of pure concern.
Ditto charting. Check out fertilityfriend.com and/or read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's a cheap, easy way to determine with high accuracy whether or not you are ovulating on your own (or with medication) and help you time sex appropriately to ovulation, whenever it occurs (and is therefore really good for people with unusual or long cycles). Charting on its own can also identify certain other instances of problems that can then be identified and addressed without expensive testing or unnecessary medications.
You will also be able to better tell when to start using opk's and can use those in conjunction with charting to best time sex. As for using opk's correctly - there are instructions on the box, specific to each brand. For most brands, you need to test at the same time each day, between 10 am and 8 pm (when the hormone you are testing for is most present), after holding your urine for 3-4 hours and not diluting it by drinking excess liquids.
And yes, the SA is important, as it doesn't much matter if you are ovulating if your husband isn't producing sufficient numbers of quality sperm.
Do talk further with your OB about appropriate testing before you continue with Clomid if this cycle didn't work.

I recommend you start out on GP, there is ton of basic info to be had over there. Starting with charting, which is even more important for you given your irregular cycles.
Before even going on Clomid, you really should have more extensive testing done...ie CD3/10 and 7dpo bloodwork, SA, HSG, etc, etc. Get yourself to specialist!
I did one round of clomid, but like someone else on the board said, my lining was too thin. So once I started doing the Follitism shots I was pregnant with IUI on my second round. It took us four rounds of IUI total, but I am now seven weeks and we just had our first ultrasound and heard the heartbeat today!
I know how hard it is but just be patient and pray a lot!

well I did have success with clomid actually. Me and my hubby had been trying for four months when I went to the doctor because I had not had a period since I got off birthcontrol. so he started me on clomid and I also started charting my BBT. The first month nothing happened and I did not ovulate so we went ahead and started for round two. the BBT charting is a really great tool because I was able to see myself when I did ovulate which was in Jan. I was also told that if your temp stays up for 18 days straight you are probably pregnant so after my temp had been up for 17 days I took a test and it was positive. I am soo happy im five weeks now.
I've had luck with Clomid twice. The first time it tooks 4 cycles of clomid, 3 at 50mg & on the 4th cycle at 100mg I got pg with twins. I ended up losing one at 17 weeks due to a heart condition, but have a healthy 8 month old DS now.
And I just got a BFP on my first cycle at 50mg. I am very cautious b/c of how easily it happened the 2nd time.

an ultrasound won't tell you anything about the condition of the inside of your tubes. You can't assume that those are fine from an U/S.
