Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

I want a play by play of the GV consign sale please

How was it?  Was the line crazy?  Any crazy biatches trying to steal your deals?  Were there a lot of developmental toys?

Details!

  • It really wasn't that bad - we were in line by 6:15 and by 6:30 the line was to the door and wrapping around (no one wanted to be out in the wind, ugh), but it was very civil, hee.  There weren't any mad dashes once they let us in, it didn't seem to get crowded until maybe an hour later or so and I was ready to go by then anyway.  There were a LOT of toys, indoor and out, and I found a great deal on a birthday present for my niece, which was nice.

There were a lot of great deals on clothes, but really look very closely at them - we were finding a lot of stained clothes, a LOT.  Gigi, Jessi and I were pulling things out as we found them, and it was disappointing, especially after reading the requirements to be a consignor (and let me tell you, I've gone over EVERYTHING I'm consigning again, just to make sure my stuff is perfect).  I did get a lot of cute things.

  • Cool!  Did you take the stroller or a laundry basket?  I'm excited about this Saturday!

  • What Creamy said.

There wasn't a mad dash - but people made a beeline for either the room with the jumpers/bouncers/outdoor toys or the area with the carseats/cribs ... so if you're looking for any 'big ticket' item, do that first.

Then I looked at shoes (WAY more for girls than boys ... big surprise there), then clothes. I took my time there and just went through everything ... they had inspection tables set up and 'don't want' racks to hang clothing on that you've decided against. Like Creamy said, make sure you do a really good one-over on your clothes, I found several stains on items I had picked out (that were really obvious too!).

At this point - I went and looked at toys ... and was dissapointed because I had seen things on my way in (on my way to the 'big items') that wern't there anymore. I guess that's life though ... priorities!  I would maybe next do: Big items - shoes - toys and THEN clothes.

We went to check out and there was NO ONE in line. They scan everything and give you a printed invoice of what you're purchasing - and then you get into a payment line depending on what you're paying with. The whole process took maybe 10 minutes at the most. Definitely take a cart/stroller with you. I had a 'Canton' Cart ... but a stroller would work just as well.

  • Yeah I am going to beeline for the big ticket items first....and then shoes!  Cuz every girl needs too many shoes.

  • I had my MIL's Canton cart too, it worked great.  I'll have it again on Saturday, but I'm not really expecting to buy anything unless I see something I absolutely have to have.

I saw several of the Fisher-Price Roll-a-rounds Drop and Roar Dinosaur for a fraction of the price on Amazon - if it weren't so huge (and we didn't already have the space-hogging Cruise n' Crawl Musical Jungle) I would have gotten one.

  • Ditto on the Canton cart. If you have one, take it. It's deep and can hold a lot which makes it easier for you to buy more.

  • I agree about having a plan/prioritizing before you get there. I wanted a glider so I looked for it first (unfortunately, the volunteers had already gotten first crack at them. Sheri also needed shoes, so that was my second stop. I got her 5 pairs of shoes for $18 total! There were also a few items that were still brand new, like the 4 piece Gymboree outfit I found that included top, pants, hat and socks for $14.50 (and it stilll had tags on it!) You do have to look at everything closely. I looked at the toys, but didn't see anything Sheri needed in the immediate future so I passed on them. They also had a room with books, CDs and DVDs as well as cute kid's furniture (table/chair sets, etc.)
