Fever that doesn't respond to medication?

Anyone's dc have this happen?  DD was sick as a dog yesterday.  Spent the entire day sleeping and throwing up.  Her fever was in the 102-103 range all day, and did not go down much at all with medication.  Maybe from 103.2 to 102.6.  She seems much better this morning, but I have never seen it not repond at all.

  • No - that has never happened to DS.  I probably would have called the after hours line at the Ped's office.  I'm glad she is doing better today.

  • this is the formula the ER pedi told me to do if fevers dont go down even after a tepid bath...

give a dose of both tylenol and motrin...4 hours later a dose of tylenol...4 hours later both tylenol and motrin..so on and so forth.  but before you do this you should try a tepid bath an hour after you first give tylenol.  If the fever is still not down then do that formula 4 hours after the tylenol.

  •  I wouldn't have worried unless the fever was much higher.

  • Zenya, that's why I didn't worry and call someone.  She gets 105-106 fevers when she is really sick, so 102-103 is minor! It is a little scary when a 3 year old keeps telling you I just want to lay down, but she was sick.

Oh wow - the highest fever DS has ever had was 102.5 and it responded to Tylenol.  If he had a fever of 105 I would be in a complete panic.
