SitterCity?

I can't remember who it was who recommended SitterCity but I'm curious about it. I'm a WAHM and my mom currently comes over 2 days a week to help watch DS. It's getting to the point though where her help, isn't quite helpful and she's becoming a bit too pushy trying to tell me how to take care of him. I've never had to hire someone before so I'm wondering if this is the best way to go about it. Or are there other sites/serivces anyone can reocommend? Pitfalls to watch out for?

I *think* I was the one who originally posted it in response to another nestie's dilemma with unreliable sitters. I have not used it yet, just searched around quite a bit. A few friends in my mom's group swear by it. They interviewed several gals and were able to pick who they were most comfortable with. The sitters already had background checks done, CPR certification and many of them are SAHMs looking to make a little extra money. I think it can be a real win win if you are able to find the right person: )?

..... Also, for me the only downfall I see is the cost. The gals I have looked into seem very qualified and are asking for $12-15 an hour in our area. Which is all fine and dandy, but really I am only looking to use them for an occasional date night with the husband and those typically start after DD goes to bed so unfortunately I would be paying someone $15 an hour just to sit on my couch and listen to the baby monitor. It definitely makes for a very expense date.?

I was a sitter on sittercity when I was in college.  I was just looking to make a little extra money and it was the perfect way to connect with people.  I  helped out a WAHM when she had business meetings out of the house.  I think you still need to check references and such but it's a great data base of a lot of education majors from local colleges as well as SAHM's looking for some extra money.  I would say try it, I had a great experience working for them!
