I'm sorry you got a diagnosis in a letter through the mail.  That seems very unprofessional.  You're not alone in your diagnosis, though.  Several women who post on her have it.  It can be of varying severity and cause several different issues/symptoms. 

personally, mine causes me irregular periods, hair growth in unwanted places, weight gain around the middle, and localized facial acne.  I am not glucose resistant or pre-diabetic (at least not yet).  I treated mine with the birth control pill.  I also had some success when I was able to stick to an exercise regimine and a low carb diet.  

I was able to get pregnant using OPKs and trying immediately after going off the pill.  I used to see a reproductive endocrinologist, but when I moved back to PA, I just saw my OB/GYN.

I agree w/ PP that is a horrible way to be notified of your diagnosis.  There are quite a few who have PCOS, so you are definitely not alone in your diagnosis. As PP said it effects everyone in a different way.

For me it meant no AF, because I was not ovulating.  Excess hair growth, trouble losing weight, and gaining weight.  I am slightly glucose resistant.  For me BCP only masked my problems.  And diet and exercise helped me none.

I had to use fertility drugs and have an IUI to get pregnant.  I saw a reproductive endocrinologist for that.

GL when you see the specialist.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Also the girls on the TTTC board will have a wealth of info on PCOS.

Wow, I agree with PP that it's a terrible way to be notified of your diagnosis.  I'd be searching for a new doctor.  I also have PCOS and worked with the RE's at Hershey Med.  They are amazing there!  Dr. Dodson is straight forward ...I felt as though he came across as abrasive at first, but overall he was the one I trusted the most with my treatment plan.  I did 3 rounds of Clomid with my former OB (unmonitored - never again!) and 3 rounds of injectables (Follistim & Ovidrel) to get pregnant.  I'm sorry that you are dealing with this and hope that Hershey will be able to help you!  Good luck!

thanks, i was very shocked to recieve this news via mail too, and the dr only did the ultersound because i suggested it due to symptoms i was having, he took the attitude like ur old anyways and it doesn't matter. i basically have no af since sept., skin tags, weight gain.hopefully something works.

I was diagnosed last year and my case is mild compared to a lot of the ladies here.  My only real symptom was very long cycles.  I was put on Metformin, a diabetic drug, after my blood glucose test results came back high-normal.  This drug is supposed to help regulate my hormone levels.  After 3 months on the Met I was pregnant and I now need to take the meds through my entire pregnancy.  So far so good!  Best of luck with figuring out a treatment plan that works for you.

wow, your doctor sounds like a gem all around.  Have you found a new one yet?  I'm sorry you've had to deal with such an ass.
