Do you dress up for baby showers?

Going to a baby shower in an upscale neighborhood today and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to wear. At my shower, a lot of the ladies were a little dressed up, but it was on a Sunday afternoon and they could have just come from church. So... I'm clueless about this kind of "etiquette." What do you wear to baby showers??

Re: Do you dress up for baby showers?

  • When I go to any shower I wear either a skirt and top or nicer pants, never jeans.  I've seen people at jeans for showers, but I was always taught that you're supposed to dress up a little for them, like church or business casual as opposed to jeans.

  • I do.  I'd probably wear slacks and a nice blouse.

  • I usually wear something nice like my black pants and a nice top.  I don't do casual for showers (either wedding or baby).  I def would not wear jeans.
  • It usually depends on who it is for.  If I know it is going to be casual, I wear jeans and a nice top.  If it is fancier, then I will wear a skirt (weather depending) or nice pants.

  • Dang it. What if they were super dark jeans? With a nicer top, heels, and jewelry? Would I be shunned??

If you are worried about it, then I would just go with no jeans.  Better safe than sorry.

  • I would never wear anything less than church/work attire to a shower of any sort, unless there was a theme involved which required dressing otherwise.

Ditto this. ?And I wouldn't wear jeans either. ?Have fun!?

  • Eh, I say it depends on the particular people. I wore jeans to the last baby shower I attended, but both of the parents-to-be were also there in jeans. To other baby showers I've worn a casual skirt and top.?
  • I usually dress up a bit for showers too.  Either a skirt or dress pants and a nice top.

  • My go to outfit for an event like this would be a nice dark pair of boot cut jeans along with a really feminine top and some killer shoes. I think jeans are fine as long as they are dark and fitted well, and of course wear something fancier on top and bottom.
  • I am going to one today!  I plan on wearing my nice black capri's and a nice top.  It's for my sister-in-laws sister.
