So I switched ds over to whole milk about 10 days ago. He has been doing great, he loves the stuff, and takes it out a bottle, a sippy whatever..Well of course it can't be that easy right? Now he has developed pretty bad diarrhea like going five six times a day with watery poop..I couldn't figure out what was causing. it, but I think it's the milk..
I am going to call the pedi of course, but just wondered if this is "normal" The other factors I should mention is that he now has horrible diaper rash!
He chin gets read if milk dribbles on it. My sister in law is lactose intolerant, but ds did fine on formula, and does fine with yogurt and cheese..
Oh and I've been giving him 32 ounces a day
So I'm thinking that alone could of caused it. My pedi never said to limit the milk, and I just replaced his bottles..
WWYD? I'm thinking about switching ds off the milk for a week or so and back to formula and slowly introducing like 20 oz a day to see if it happens again..
Anyhow, sorry this is so long, thanks for sticking with it. Just wondering if this happened to any of your dc when switching over to whole milk??
Thanks ![]()
Re: whole milk and diarrhea milk allergy or normal?
That is not normal and can be signs of a milk allergy. Your pedi can test a poopy diaper to see if there are microscopic traces of blood in it. That is the telltale sign of a milk allergy.
Before you do that though, you need to cut down on the number of oz a day and see what happens. Milk is not the same as formula....a toddler should not get more than 16-24 oz of milk a day.
My son LOVES milk, but when he drinks too much, he can't digest all of it and gets diarrhea that smells like sour milk. I limit him to 24 oz a day at the most.
