2nd Trimester

Swollen Feet

So for the past few nights when I get into bed it feels as if I have dry skin on the top of one of my feet and into my ankle.  The skin feels very tight when I flex my foot.  Anyway last night the other one started in on the tightness so I finally decided to go and look in the mirror (I had indigestion anyway so I knew I wasn't going to be sleeping).  I went into the bathroom and lifted my pjs up to my calves and there they were- the most swollen feet (on me) I have seen without an injury.  You could not even make out my ankle.

I decided to sleep with my feet elevated and this morning they seem to look and feel better.

I know that I am to be expecting swollen fingers, legs, and feet but at 20 weeks doesn't it seem a bit early?

Oh yeah- I am a teacher and am on my feet from 7:30-4:00.  I guess that doesn't help.

Re: Swollen Feet

  • My boss said her feet started the swelling in the first week of her fifth month. I thought it was relly early too, but here I am going into my 6th month, and my ankles are swollen as well. I guess we just have to down the water, keep our feet up and hope for the best.
  • I haven't had any issues with severe swelling. Sure, my ankles are more swollen in the afternoon than they are earlier in the day, but I have an office job that requires me to sit 8+ hours a day. My fingers aren't swollen at all yet so I can easily still wear my wedding ring set.

  • Thank you all!  I guess I should have mentioned the being a teacher factor and that I am on my feet from 7:30 to 4ish.

  • My feet have been swelling since around 17 weeks. I am holding a lot of fluid all over though. I just try and keep mine elevated as much as I can and I try not to eat much prepackaged foods because they have tons of salt in them.
  • I am the same way. My feet and legs feel so tight that it hurts to bend them or sit on them.  I sit in a high chair all day at a bank and them dangling makes them swell more.  I know you prob already know to drink lots of water, but seriously  the more water you drink the more it helps.  I also soak my feet almost everynight.  It really does help. Good luck.
