2nd Trimester

almost passed out tonight!

It was so weird, I was at a friend's house - there were tons of people, it was sort of a gathering for a friend from S. Africa who is in town for the week.

Anyway, talking to my dad I all of a sudden got light-headed and flushed and the room started to go black.  The only time that has EVER happened to me was when I got my epidural with DS!  My mom freaked out, wants to know what's wrong with me... like I know.  She swears I'm not eating but I PROMISE I had just been stuffing my face with all the appetizers that were out.

Anyway, I feel fine now... and DH is bringing me frozen yogurt. Wink

Re: almost passed out tonight!

  • scary!! i used to get a similar feeling when i showered at the begining of pregnany, i never actually fainted though. hope that was a one time thing for you
  • This is my #1 hated pregnancy symptom. I almost fainted last week at a store, I was so freaked out I almost had my son call my DH to come get us. Then today at Walmart, not as bad but still enough to make me need to sit down.

  • This happend to me the other day, it was odd, I got really dizzy then the room was spinning and I almost fell on the floor.  I just drank some water and went to bed.  I actually started to get a tingling in my hands and they started to go numb.  Dr said it is ok as long as it doesn't last.  It was just scary at first, but after laying down for a little bit I felt much better.

  • I'm so glad it's not just me!  Thanks for making me feel more normal, ladies.  I know that dizziness/fainting is normal in pregnancy, but it hadn't happened to me like that.  Kinda freaked me out!

  • It is scary when it happens.  This has been happening to me on and off the last week, not to the point of starting to black out, but where I feel really light headed.  I try to make a point to drink a ton of water, I think it helps.

  • it's common during pg to have this happen- but you should call your OB just to be sure- they should take your blood pressure and possibly check your iron.

I had 2 days of dizzy feeling adn almost passed out a few times and my OB found my BP had gotten really low - she Rx'd me to eat more salt and have some caffiene - go figure- and it worked!! she did check my iron again but it was fine, as she suspected.

  • I've been doing that recently, but mine is due to low blood pressure (last time it was 85/52).  There isn't anything they can do to help low blood pressure so I just have to be careful.  Everyone tried to tell me I wasn't eating enough too, but I could rattle off everything I had eaten that day and they would drop that idea!  I didn't have this issue with DS.

Good luck - hopefully it was a one-time thing.
