Best foundation for dry skin?

i exfoliate and moisturize but i still have flaky skin on my face.  I'm thinking I need to switch foundations to one for dry skin.  Any ideas?

Re: Best foundation for dry skin?

  • I just use bare minerals.  I have very dry skin and I thought bare minerals would make my dry skin worse, but it didn't.  I love it.

I've tried to use the bare minerals foundation multiple times and it's made my face breakout.  I haven't had that issue with other foundations.

I see.  Bare minerals had to opposite effect on me, it cleared up my skin.  Before BM I used MAC Studio Fix.  That seemed to make me break out, but it didn't bother my dry skin.  Have you tried any MAC foundation yet?

  • My face is the same way... I've tried all kinds of foundation! Nars, Mac, Benefit... The only thing I can wear though is Covergirl or Stilas tinted moisturizer, and I honestly like Covergirls better because it has a little more coverage, and I cover it with Clinique hydrating powder.
  • I usually tell my clients to wear a primer, that helps sometimes ......

you might want to rethink the moisturizer you're wearing .... their not all created equal

are you looking for inexpensive foundation? full coverage foundation? something sheer?

  • Clinique Dewy-Smooth. Ooooh yeah baby!!

  • clinique moisture something or other... it's in a tube.  it's the best foundation i've ever used since i have dry skin too.  LOVE IT!

also, try not to exfoliate too often, maybe only once a week tops b/c that dries out your skin even more...

  • I use Clinique's super moisture and their foundation for dry skin. It works really well for me and I have VERY bad dry skin.

what moisturizers would you recommend?  right now i switch between oil of olay for sensitive skin and neutrogena.  i'm looking for probably a sheer/medium foundation.  i have a tinted moisturizer that doesn't really provide a lot of coverate.

an inexpensive one would be Cetaphil ... yes like the face wash .... it's in a tube and there is one with SPF as well. For a lil more expensive I like Bioelements, usually can only find in a salon. But a middle one would be Clinques Dramatically Different Mositurizer ... keep exfoliating too. May take a week or so ... if its still dry, might want to look at a moisturizing mask

What face wash do you use? that could be why its continuing to be dry .... most (not all ppl) have to swithc products for different seasons (sucks I know!)

as far as Foundations .... I have been using BM (I dont wear make up often) Clinique is usually good as pp have said .... you can go to the counter and see if they have a sample or even drop by Sephora, they give sample as well as some Ultas do to. A drug store brand that I have liked was Maybelines matte mouse.

Thanks for all the advice!  I was using Cetaphil face wash for normal skin but I just switched to Oil of Olay foam hydrating to see how that goes.  If it doesn't work I'll try Cetaphil for Sensitive skin maybe, it could be less drying.  I'll definetely give the Cetaphil lotion a try as well.
