Crib that doesn't get scratched up?

Hi ladies,

So, i'm beginning my quest to find the right crib.  I love the whole idea of having a convertible kind so that it can grow with the baby.  I've noticed that a lot of website reviews say things like "this crib is pretty, but scratches easily".  Someone even said that their teething baby is leaving bite marks in it!  This kind of defeats the purpose of purchasing something that is supposed to last several years.  So, I'm really leery about picking something just yet.  Have any of you found a crib that you love that didn't get all scratched up during assembly and/or after?

  • Pine is the wood most cribs are made of and it dents easily. I don't think Pali cribs are made of pine.

  • We have a Pali crib and it does not dent/scratch easily.

  • Definitely avoid pine and any other soft woods.  It means spending quite a bit more money on a crib since those with hard woods always cost more.  You'll probably also need to look at more specialty shops for one as opposed to chain stores (so no BRU).  A good sales person should help you find one.
  • Darker finishes also show scratches more easily.  So big no no would be a pine crib in an espresso finish :)
  • Go with a harder wood, like others have said.  Also, get one that is stained not painted.  Black and white cribs are all painted and will chip easily.  I have asked about this at every baby furniture store I have been to and they all have said to stay away from white, because it shows every flaw.  If you really want white or black, go for one that has a distressed finish.  We are going for one with a espresso stain.  Have fun looking!
