Baby Pale While Sleeping?

Cal is fair-skinned and when he's asleep he often looks quite pale.  Anyone else notice this?  I just figured it was normal for a fair-skinned baby (and then they have more color in their cheeks when they are active or crying or outdoors) but DH just posed the question, could it mean he's not getting enough oxygen while asleep?  He seems to be breathing normally.

Edit: he just woke up and already has more color.  So I guess it really is a coloring difference between sleep & awake, which is more concerning.

Re: Baby Pale While Sleeping?

  • DD is the same way!  I never thought anything of it- I hope it doesn't mean something is wrong.

  • My DS is fair skinned too and I've noticed this. I think it's just what you said that they are just calmer when they're asleep and so they don't have as much color.

I think though if they weren't getting enough oxygen they would have a bluish tint...

  • I think it is just because they are calmer while sleeping. If she was low on oxygen you would notice bluish tint around the lips and nailbeds.
