BM Issue - Please help

Hi - I am hoping someone can help me or tell me I am not alone.

My DD is 13 months old.  80% of the time, she is constipated.  We have tried everything (and I do mean everything!)  The problem with this is that she makes herself vomit by either holding in or pushing in her BM.   It appears that she 'holds it in' b/c it must hurt to pass it.

I don't know what to do about this.  The pediatrician just keeps sending us away with different things to try but I am starting to wonder if something else is going on here.

Any thoughts??

  • I haven't dealt with this issue but here is my honest advice: Get a new pediatrician.  You haven't mentioned how long this has been going on, but I assume it's been quite a while from the fact that you've tried 'everything'.  It seems very odd to me that your DD is vomiting from not going and your pedi doesn't seem very concerned.

I would ask around and find a pedi that is highly recommended in your area, and get an appointment with them ASAP.

  • What helped us was to stop any sort of cereal and increase dd's water.  We also feed her a lot of fruit so that helps.  After that, I have no idea.  It could be something diet related, like bread and cheese will stop anyone up.  GL!
  • I am a big fan of a little olive oil going a long way.  I just realized that this was an issue this weekend, DS has been very regular until this weekend he was having bowel movements with cries.  I just upped his veggie intake and put a little olive oil on said veggies, life has been good since.  Keep an eye on your DC's fluid intake too.  HTH
  • Tara - I sent you a long private message regarding this. Hopefully it worked!!!
