Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I just saw your questions to me. Does your ped. suspect that it really is something physical going on with Fiona vs. her just being developmentally a little behind? That seems a little strange to me. DD used to do the same thing as Fiona with the standing - she'd buckle her knees or sometimes would tuck her legs up entirely so you couldn't even put her in a standing position. Right before her first birthday, she wanted to pet the dogs who were up on the couch and we propped her up against it and she stood perfectly well. She's been standing great ever since - as long as she has something to hold onto and we put her in that position. I would think your ped. would recommend an early intervention evaluation before just assuming there are some leg/knee/hip issues! We had her early intervention evaluation 2 weeks ago and we're waiting to hear back on whether she qualifies for the program or not. In the meantime, just from the 1.5 hours the therapists spent with her, we learned so many great tips for helping her. And, in that short time, she's started almost crawling (she started army crawling right before her first birthday but wouldn't try to get up on all fours), can pull almost all the way up to standing, and can go from lying down to sitting up on her own which she wasn't doing before. Seriously, I was so amazed that someone just showing her a different way to do things 1 time could have such an impact! And, the tips they gave me are so easy to do - roll her onto her side after diaper changes and make her push herself up; show her how to cross her leg to push up to standing, etc.
