Eco-Friendly Family

We're screwed.

So, DD's room is the coldest in the house. It's literally 11-12 degrees cooler than whatever I set the thermostat at. That's a lot.

Anyway, we finally broke down and put a small heater in there and that fixed the problem. Suddenly she was sleeping (at least a little) better and I didn't feel a blast of cold air when I go into her room at night to nurse. Well, last night before bed, I noticed a funny smell coming from it. Like a burning smell. Not good. It went back to Target today. I thought I'd just exchange it. I didn't think about them being completely sold out/clearanced b/c they're seasonal items.

I unloaded both kids at 4 different places this morning (Target, Lowe's, Home Depot and Walgreens). No heaters. Anywhere. I called the store that cannot be named and they are sold out. As well as the one near DH's work. Where do I go?!?!

We have to have a heater in there. Seriously.

Re: We're screwed.

  • I've seen some at Costco. Do you have one near you/ have a membership?
  • Loading the player...
  • I would try an office supply store. I got mine there :)
  • Costco! They have a heat dish for $60 at my store...
  • Maybe a smaller shop? Sometimes they have to keep unsold seasonal inventory on hand since they don't have anywhere to stash it - maybe an ACE Hardware or True Value?  I often see wacky unseasonal items there. You may be able to find something on the internet, although that would be a PITA with shipping...

  • How about Amazon? They don't seem to be affected by seasonal changes... and it involves less running around! I guess that would take a couple of days though...

ditto  try your old school neighborhood hardware

  • No local Cosco or membership. And I really want to go pick one up instead of ordering online b/c we need it NOW.

I will check and see if we have a local hardware store anywhere nearby. It's all big box stores locally it seems :(

  • Just so you know, space heaters draw a lot of electricity - a lot.  Just be prepared to possible have the breaker tripping if you leave it on with other lights or electrical things on that circuit. DH is an electrician and he sees this a lot during the winter.

Hm. We used to have a bigger space heater that was a huuuuge energy hog like you're describing. We quit using it. I wouldn't have felt comfortable with it on overnight anyway. The one I bought for DD's room is really small, cool to the touch, cuts on and off all night b/c of the internal thermostat and did NOT seem to be such an energy hog.

  • i'd go with Amazon too.  they have everything.
  • I got one at Costco recently.
  • If you can only find one at amazon, I have the Prime thing, which means you can add overnight shipping for something like $4.  Send me a PM (and then let me know you did!) if you want me to have it shipped to you and then you can paypal me the cost.

That is HUGELY helpful. Thank you :) My DH is running by a hardware store on his way home from work. They claim they have a few heaters, so here's to hoping they have what we're looking for.

    Thanks again.
