we'll probably end up doing both at different times.
i do know that foster care is NOT for everyone. i also know that private adoption is also not for everyone. there's a difference between the two, so they're really hard to compare.
We are doing private for the first adoption because we wanted a little more control with regard to age and the baby's situation (BP health, etc.). We really wanted to start with a newborn for our first child, so that played into it. Plus, before coming here I didn't know nearly as much about foster-adopt as I do now. I am much more comfortable with the idea then I was in the past.
We don't qualify for foster through adopt for our state -- we could just foster, but they won't let us adopt b/c we havent' been married 3 years (but you can adopt if you're single).
Someone with more experience than me with foster can correct me but we were under the impression that the point of foster is reunification with the birth family. IF the birth family was unable or unwilling or not allowed to reunite with the children then adoption was a possibility.
Private/Agency adoption is 100% for the purpose of immediate adoption and not with the intent of reunification with the birth family.

You got that right! We chose fost adopt. We are insane. I honestly don't think I could ever recommend it to anyone yet at the same time, I think I'm addicted to it.
