XP: Gymboree, Little Gym, Kindermusik

What is your opinion on these?  Which of these do you and your DC like the best?  Little Gym and Kindermusik are closer to us, but I would love feedback on all 3.  I want to enroll DD into at least 1 program and looking for the best fit.  We are going to take advantage of the free class for each over the next couple of weeks to experience it first hand. Just wondered what you other mommies thought! Thanks!

  • We go to The Little Gym and really like it.  We'll probably do a Kindermusik class soon too.

  • I did not like Little Gym, but I think it was b/c the teacher was a 16 or 17 y.o. gymnast and clearly not very comfortable with babies.  Also I never saw any cleaning of the equipment.  Gymboree, I love.  Ours allows you to go to as many open gyms as you like for free, so when the whether was the suckiest, we had some place to go and be active and around other babies every day.  We also did Music Together- this was my favorite of all the classes.  We do swim and music through the rec center.  The swim class rocks, the music class, after Music Together, is awful.

  • We are currently doing Kindermusik and LOVE it. ?We have an awesome teacher and my son has a blast!
  • We just went to a free Gymboree class.  I think it's good as a gym space for ds to run around when the weather is bad but I wasn't so impressed with the class itself.  However, you should try a class yourself.  I've found that everything depends upon the teacher you get.   If they have a lot of energy and know what they're doing, you can't beat that.

We also do a Music together and we love love love the class just as the other pp does.  Again, I think a lot has to do with our teacher and her energy but I just think the class overall has more purpose- different tempos & rhythms and different instruments to learn.

  • We do Kindermusik and love it.  I would definitely go to the free class and check it out.  Every teacher is different, but I love ours.  DS LOVES it!

  • Have been doing Kindermusik for a year now.  LOVE it.  200%.

Tried a gymboree class.  Didn' t like it.

    Never heard of Little Gym.

Music Together is pretty good, but we prefer Kindermusik.  It's turning DD into a great kid.  Polite, cleans up after herself, shares...  The classes are great.

  • Sarah is a "birdie" at the Little Gym and loves it - which is good because the nearest Gymboree is 20 miles away.  I've heard good things about Gymboree. I know the Little Gym offers 1 class free and I think Gymboree does too!

  • We go to Kindermusik and the class and teacher are great, but I don't think we will be going back after this session b/c of the other moms.  Most of them know each other from a different class and aren't very friendly to the other moms.  They sit there and chat instead of participating and I can tell it is very frustrating for the teacher.  There are also a couple of nannys with kids and they just plunk the kids down and go talk in the corner.

I just don't like the vibe, but that's very specific to our class.  I'd try out a freebie to see how you like it!

  • DD and I go to Kindermusik.  I like it but I don't love it.  I agree it depends on the teacher.  Our teacher is new and not totally comfortable with the material, so the class doesn't flow as well.  Also, DD is in the 0-18 month class, and there are only two other kids in the class and they're both 6 months.  So they can sit or lay there happily while DD is trying to squirm away and walk around.  She's just at a different stage than these boys, so I think I will wait to re-enroll when she can go to the older kids class.  Definitely give a free class a try before you commit, but it can be a lot of fun!

  • DD is enrolled in Gymboree and really likes it!  I also like the other moms in the group so I think that sways my opinion a bit.  I agree with other posters that it really depends on the individual teacher/location, so definitely try it out first.  The owner of our Gymboree teaches classes (has been the owner for 18 years) and I always make sure that we are in one of her classes b/c she is fabulous!

  • Now that DS is into climbing and is active, Gymboree is great.  (We went too before he was crawling and I thought it was so-so.)  We also do Music Together and DS could kind of care less about it.
  • I think it all depends on what your DD likes to do. We took a music class similar to Gymboree since DS was 8-weeks and we both loved, loved, loved it. (Another bonus: I made a ton of friends there, too.) Now that he's walking and climbing, he's pretty much outgrown it so we just switched to My Gym, which is terrific! I personally found Gymboree to be more of the same-old. My Gym, on the other hand, offers plenty of hands-on activities like a ball pit (probably not the most sanitary, but DS lives for it), trampoline, swings and even a zip line. With the aid of an instructor, DS has also done a handstand and flip!
