Plano area SAHMs: Strollerskating

If you're looking for something different to do, may I suggest strollerskating? It's on Thursdays 9am-noon at Thunderbird Lane in Plano (off Parker & 75). I go just about every week; sometimes with my mom, sometimes by my lonesome. It's $4 if anyone's interested.

  • How cool does that look. I might be a disaster, but it would be fun to try. DD would be safe in her stroller even if I bit it right?

  • DH bought me skates last month and I did this at the park a few times.   Can't wait for the weather to get warmer so we can go out more.
  • as long as you don't tip her over! Kidding aside, having the stroller to push actually helps you keep your balance; think of it like old people using a walker!

Get a Bob Revolution jogging stroller - it's the best on the market and would be able to handle the streets and trails around Dallas (some of the trails are not well maintained and have a lot of debris - sticks, rocks, litter).  A regular stroller is not built to go the speeds that you will get on skates, even if you think you are on a "flat" surface.  You will also need the brakes that a jogging stroller has; if you do not know how to brake properly then you are in for a world of hurt, and you'll hurt your child too.  Wear a helmet (Gyro bike helmets are the best), wear wrist guards and kneepads too, because helmet hair is easier to fix than a cracked skull, broken wrist or dislocated knee.   I'm a former inline skate instructor and I've skated for over eight years; I've seen a LOT of injuries (and have the scars from mine as well) and I'm not just trying to be alarmist.
